I have a treeing walker coon hound. LOVES kids! Not too much drool, medium shedder I guess.

Stubborn and a total trash hound!

He's tall enough to get on the counters and stove and take what he wants.

Won't come inside when the other dogs do, has to be let in separately.

Won't walk through the bathroom to get into the bedroom, but will scratch the door to have you open it for him so he won't have to walk the extra 8 feet!

He's a good boy though.

Also they typically have no car sense so never let them run loose around any kind of traffic.

I had a black and tan...dog was great with everybody, never remotely aggressive (unless he was hunting).

I miss that dog

I have three coonhounds. M ine are great with other people, but I have worked with them to be that way. Have you been around the dog? Does it seem friendly or aggressive? Can't really tell you about shedding. I keep mine outside. They are not house dogs.

No not a coon hound... we had a hog dog (Catahoula Cur)....... She was awsome with the kids...... Loved the kids as they loved her. She was not aggresive to family & friends she recognized...... but total strangers would embrace the hate!

I have a redbone... she was born last September, she stays in a kennel in the back yard for now. I had a treeing walker back in the late 80's - early 90's.

I have heard that coonhounds are slower to behaviorally mature, I believe it.  She's still very puppy-like at 8 months old, excitable, loves to play. I need to crack down on her training now that she's settling down a bit.

She doesn't slobber/drool nearly as bad as my lab does when he eats/drinks. She's good with my 5 year old, but we're still teaching her not to jump up and stuff.

Looking forward to taking her out this fall...

This...My cat is pretty big, little over 100 Lbs.  Loves my nieces, 2 & 3, loves my friends and family that see him enough, but if you're a stranger and come by the front window he wants your heart.  It's more of a show then anything, but if someone ever came at me or my now ex-wife that dog would go into complete protection mode.

One of the old neighbors had 2 Akita's that got out one night while my ex was out for a jog with the dog.  She had headphones on and didn't even know the dogs were chasing her until mine flipped it's shit and scared them off.
