| is this a good martial art to learn? Or is there a better fighting skill? Has anyone done any training with this style of fighting? |

Ninjutsu, when done properly it is unstoppable.
ETA: Vladimir Vasilev is good but Kacem Zoughari would mop up the floor with him and Masaaki Hatsumi at 78 would destroy Kacem. If you want to lean a fighting style that has "Real World" applications look for a local Bujinkan dojo. |

Krav Maga FTW +1 the core fundamentals of killing people and defending is in Krav Maga, its not some silly karate chop weak sauce BS that is found in 90% of martial arts. of course this all depends on if you get the real deal Krav Maga and not this new Krav Maga Lite that seems to be popping up all over the place |
| Well, I get trained in a mix of arts, so there is a bit of everything. I looked through the book and it seems applicable to the real world. I suggest going to the place that trains it and observe or ask to participate. From what I know its the Russian military fighting style. See if you can find he book and take a look through it, even though it's in russian you can get a feel of things via the pictures. |

The chop allows you to focus the impact to a smaller area, as its easier to chop the neck than to punch. Even though both will work. |
| There is a guy close to me that offers classes $5.00 a class Link |

Most martial arts cope with all situations you could end up in. Problem is most schools don't teach their arts properly. In BJJ you still learn striking, kicks, punches but also all the gound work jujitsu is known for. Tae Kwon Do is know for mostly kicks but Jhoon Rhee could also mop the floor with the best BJJ masters. It has a great deal in it that focuses on ground fighting and ho sin sul.
It does not matter the art but the person teaching it and the person learning it that makes it effective. Be it Kenpo, Hapkido, Tangsoodo, Taekwondo, Shotokan, Enshin or what ever....they all kick ass if taught right. |
