So after a few visits to an ENT and a CT scan the Doctors say's this surgery is the only way to bring my quality of life back to normal.
So I guess my questions are; Has anyone here had this procedure and if so how much relief did you get from it? How long of a recovery period did you have? Did it change what type of activities you participate in? flying, scuba diving, MMA fighting, shooting large caliber shouldered weapons? The reason I ask this is because they remove your sinus material and drill holes in your bone to get to the other sinus cavities. So anyone who has had this procedure done let me know what you think. Also any doctors who know about it feel free to chime in. Regards Brian |

I have had 3 so far. Each surgery lasts about 10 years ( for me ) . The last time I had the works done. Before the last surgery I could not breathe out of my right nostril at all. It has helped a lot, I can breathe through it now but only about 75%. I don't get near as many sinus infections as I used to. ETA: The last one was the worse, I was off work for 4 weeks total, Dr origanally said 2 weeks tops. The worse was when they remove the packing, I hear they no longer do that. ETA 2: Pain was abnoxious the first week. |

I had it done about 6 years ago. The doctor didn't pack my nose. Night and day with respect to my quality of life. Those awful sinus headaches went away. Now, even in the absolute pits of allergy season, I'm only vaguely aware of discomfort from allergy and sinus issues. I had the procedure on a Sat morning (~10AM), went home, spent the day in bed and lounging around, and then went to my son's lacrosse game the next morning (this, by the way, was a stupid fucking idea.) So much for "superman syndrome"...
There was pain the first couple of days (I think I was given Vicoden ??). The debridements are unpleasant - it's just not normal to hear a vacuuming sound behind one's eyes. I just wish I had done it a few years earlier. |

My Mom got some sinus surgery... It wasn't this specific procedure, though. The doctor went too far and poked a hole through the thing that separates your nose from your brain. She spent like a week in the hospital, when she was supposed to be in and out in about 3 hours. ![]() She's better now, can breathe again. She can't taste much, though... |

Had it done a couple of years ago. Left sinus completely closed down and right sinus down to 50%. Surgery was a snap, no packing, wore a gauze mustache for quite awhile, had to flush sinuses w/saline solution on a very regular basis to prevent scarring (lots of blood & clots flushed out initially), was off work 2 weeks, never needed the pain medication but had to sleep in the recliner to prevent bleeding all over the bedsheets. Huge inprovement in airflow, now I don't lose my breath exercising like I used to (when I didn't know why I got out of breath so easily), don't find myself breathing through my mouth when congested, sense of taste slightly changed (due to change in sense of smell???), don't get as many sinus infections as I used to.
Glad I had it done!... Tomac |

When I was waking up, right after the surgery, I vomitted about half a gallon of blood into a trashcan. You just know you aren't in for a good day when vomitting blood makes you feel better.
The next two days I was in what could best be described as a zombie like state as I ambled around the house in a haze of pain hungering for ice cream and pain killers while dripping bloody mucus from facial orifices. After that - things started to improve and no sinus pain since.

Well, its to be expected, after all I had just been stabbed in the face repeatedly - allbeit by a professional .
The moral of the story is that recovery sucks balls for about a week and everything was much improved after that and I would do it again... if I had to... I guess. |
