| How many guns do you think one should own before calling himself a "gun person"?? |
| It's not a question of "how many", it's belief and behavior issue. I know many folks who own multple firearms and are not "gun people". I also know a guy who has 1 M91/30 and he is a "gun person". It is all he can afford. He shoots regularly, researches and acts on political issues. Hell, when I was in the military, I didn't own any guns(got to use all kinds of Uncle Sam's stuff) and I was still a "gun person" |

After that, it's just a matter of how much you decide to put into it. Saying you have to own X number of guns to be considered a gun person, is like saying a woman has to charge X number of dollars to be considered a whore; it just doesn't work that way.

It's possible to encounter a serious shooter who owns nothing more than a .22 rifle or a .30-'06 bolt action. It's also possible to encounter someone who owns a bunch of AR's and AK's and knows very little about shooting at all. |

One, with the right attitude.
A room full of guns may indicate a hoarder with a lot of money that knows hardly anything beyond the basics of which ammo to buy and how to get it into the gun. A man with three or four really good, accurate rifles that knows how to use them and knows why he chose those rifles is more likely to be a "gun guy". Most likely he knows how to hand load ammunition in order to get every bit of utility from each gun for use across a broad spectrum. His guns are tools, and he is not a slave to an accumulation. |

It may not be, but I believe that is the deal. A guy started using it years ago in a lot of his posts as the answer to numerical questions that have no answer, as stated, but also to twist panties. That probably wasn't his intention, but it was the result. For a short time it got so tiresome and contentious that it was on the list of words you could not say, if my memory serves me at all. Or not. 
It has nothing to do with 88s, which has been suggested a few times lately. As to the answer to the original question, I was going to say five or six, but now I'm thinking one is the correct answer. But I would like to have at least 87 or so. Maybe 187. |

It's a personal call I guess, if you think you are, then you must be. ETA - to clear things up, the guys with 6-7 guns are not only NOT gun guys. But the poor things never even get to see sunlight. They have them, because they have them. One dude bought 1 when younger, the rest he got from when someone died. And other then cleaning, they're never taken out. On the other side, I know guys with tons of bolt actions. They'll play with EBRs, but wouldn't think of buying one. So 'gun guy' is pretty much an open term. |

I didnt mean to incite any racist undertones , but the term '88' , and the number 87 are so loosely thrown around here, I couldnt resist......sorry. BTW........IIRC only 75 or 76 folks died at Waco in the fire. |

I think one could own 1 gun and reallly be considered a gun person. But I would base it upon their safety skills and general knowledge of gun handling more than I would their overall number of guns. I have seen hunters they may have a ton of guns but are dumb about it and unsafe.
However, I think you average gun afficianado will have 10+. |
