For some reason I have the urge to purchase a remote control helicopter. What would I have to spend for a quality one?

I forget where I heard this but people who sell them basically say to start with a cheap one because you WILL wreck it. Then when you get good, get a more expensive one.

This is the extent of my knowledge on the subject, sorry.

What is the price range for a quality cheap one?

The E-flite Blade CX would be a good place to start-under 200 bucks and easy to fix. Flying an RC helicopter is hard-like balancing a board on a ball.

My twin step sons each have one that they picked up at a hobby shop for about $100. They are pretty small.

My neighbor bought my son  one of the $50 dollar ones for Christmas and it is a blast !!! All of us  go out and play with it.  :)

I have had the bug for one too, looked into them and it appeared to be a $500 min purchase, with a very high probability that I'd wreck it and need to spend more on repairs....

Then one day a friend showed me this $20 toy he got for his son. I swear we drank and played with it for hours and even though we wrecked it a few times it still flew.

I'd say get one of these first, it might take the edge off, and you'll get a little fly time without the big investment. If it's still a huge pull, get the bigger toy and spend the bucks.

+1 on the E-flight Blade CX2. I have a few of them and they are the easiest to fly. There under $200 I think and parts are cheap and plentiful.

Flying the cheapy $20-$30 ones is a blast although nothing like flying a collective pitch heli.

OP, if you're serious about it but don't want to spend a whole bunch, get a Blade CX or whatever the newest equal is and go here: Radd's School of Rotary Flight
