Okay... long story short: I bought a tube amp head over a month ago on Ebay and it had to be shipped back (from me) to the factory once I received it because it had an issue. It's been a VERY long and frustrating experience. But here's the latest and I wanted to get some of your input on your experiences with UPS.

My email to the seller (an authorized re-seller)...

"I’ve been tracking my amp that was shipped-out on the 8th from the factory and it was scanned on Arrival in Chicago on the 9th, and then on Departure on the 10th. That was the last time it was “heard from”. On the UPS web site it’s listed as “adverse weather”. But it’s been saying that for days now. No change at all. Usually, the Arrivals and Departures come only a day or two apart. It’s been SIX now. So I called UPS and they recommended that a Trace be opened for it because it’s been so long now. They told me that they usually have the shipper open the Trace. I wanted to pass this on to you and ask if you could contact XXXX and have them do this for me, as the last time I contacted XXXX (before I talked to you the last time and you found-out that it had been shipped the day before) they never responded. You seem to have better luck with them than I do. This has been quite a process! Thanks for your help."

So I've had this nagging feeling that my recently repaired brand new amp head is sitting on a bench somewhere (Minneapolis?) because they broke it in shipping. I used to work the day hub at UPS many years ago and I remember seeing a fair amount of stuff sitting broken on benches around the hub. Anyone else think this has happened and their "adverse weather" excuse is BS? Cause I checked ALL of the road reports between Chicago and where I live and weather is NOT and has not been an issue.

Arrrrggggg!!! "These pretzels are making me thirsty!!!"

Hopefully the shipper gets on them about the package.  The few times we've had a problem with a customer's shipment, they've been Johnny-on-the-spot in helping us.

When is it due?

Packages get on the train in Chicago and usually are not heard from again until the day of delivery, at least that's how it works here

Was due yesterday.

I've tracked a lot of packages over the years and never seen more than a day or two between stops. So SIX days is a bit disconcerting to me. Plus, when I loaded trucks for UPS I saw my fair share of broken items. So I envision my amp in peices in Minneapolis or something.

I don't think UPS is a terrible company. But I still say that's IN SPITE of the union. I HATED the Teamsters union when I worked there (still do!). All they did was take my money.

I needed a pair of glasses. I had vision coverage (or so I thought). I asked my supervisor THREE times if I was covered and "yes" was always the reply. So I got my glasses. Years later, I got a bad credit report because the glasses were never paid for. I called UPS and the union. They blew me off and did NOTHING to resolve the issue (or even find anything out about it). So I ended-up paying for the glasses out-of-pocket. The mafia Teamsters union can SUCK IT!

Oh man, don't get me started!! First, I feel your pain.  I have also had to ship my tube amps (fragile things they are!) on more than one occasion back to the East Coast to Marshall/Korg for warranty issues.

It's a harrowing experience.

Now throw UPS in the mix.

I'll spare you the War and Peace version of my tales of woe.  Suffice it to say that on one occasion I was expecting my amp, it was 2 days late (in limbo the entire fucking time on the manifest online), and then it showed up as "delivered".  Of course I never got it.  Got the dispatch on the phone, driver insists he left it, it's now after 7pm.

UPS didn't do SHIT.  My wife and I went around the neighborhood and found my fucking amplifier THREE BLOCKS AWAY, SITTING ON THE FUCKING CURB.

This is a $2500 TSL-122 I'm talking about.

I feel your pain brother.  Keep it positive, I've got my fingers crossed for ya!!!!!!

Thanks graffix. When I ship something I always go FedEx Ground (if it's my choice).

Years ago I was a bit of a PRS collector and heard WAY too many horror stories of UPS leaving a $7K Private Stock on a curb somewhere. Plus FedEx' shipping office is just SO much easier to deal with the the people nicer. I shipped a 98# Hughes & Kettner Triamp MkI (in roadcase) with FedEx and even though it was WAY oversize, the gal said "we'll just overlook this" and shipped it for me anyways. What a beast that head was! (I got rid of it because it was SO heavy. Loved it though!)
