Hey guys, Just wondering what flashlight would you guys recommend?
I know that Surefire makes good stuff just trying to decide on a model. I am basically looking to use it for general house / emergency use. thanks |
I'd get something with a clickie switch. My G2L apparently got some moisture in it while using it in heavy rain and corroded enough to quit working after a couple days. I called surefire and they said that despite what the specs say, only clickies are really water resistant, and they sent me a new (normal twisty) tailcap. Surefires are built to last in any harsh tactical environment, just don't forget your umbrella.
So far I've had better luck with my $10 RC-G2 from dealextreme. And it takes AAs.

Surefire G2 with the upgraded bezel. The name escapes me at the moment but contact Calvin at Bright Flashlights and he will hook you up. Calvin is a dealer here and has great prices and awesome customer service. +1, Calvin is a good guy, nd the G2L's are a good general flashlight, I currently use one as my HD Gun's light. |
| I have a Surefire E2D that I carry everyday. It works great as a house flash light and LaRue makes a mount for it to go on a AR. I also have the 9p. It is a lot bigger than the E2D but the only bad thing about it is that you have to turn the tail cap to turn it on and leave it on |

| I like my Streamlight stinger for the house. It has a piggy back charger so there is always a spare battery ready to go. Charger also has a nice red led so you can find it in the dark. 120 lumens is pretty bright too. Only downside is that there is no seizure inducing strobe feature. |

Fenix LD10 or LD20. I have both and have carried the LD10 daily for almost a year now. The anti-roll bezel does a good job stopping the flashlight from rolling when I've dropped it working under a car and the adjustable brightness settings help when in tight spaces where 120lumens against a shiney piece of metal is too bright to work with. Being a single (LD10) and a 2x (LD20) AA flashlights makes finding batteries cheap and easy. I use rechargable NiCads that generally last about 4-6 weeks between recharging. Saves alot of money over CR123 batts.
For around 60$, it's hard to beat for EDC. |

I've got a Nitecore NEX, 200 Lumens, 1 CR123A battery, fits nicely in the palm of my hand. The SureFire is a great choice also.

Another vote here for G2 LED buy a "clickie" tailcap though. If you got the extra coinage. The E2D is another good choice
Eta: 6P is another good choice but to me the only difference between that and th G2 is aluminum body vs. Polymer. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| I have a nice collection of Surefire lights. For "around the house" I use a 3D cell Maglight, now with an LED. Also, I switched to a Fenix P3D last year for carrying around, and haven't really used any of my Surefire stuff since. That said, Surefire is definitely the way to go for weapon lights. |

Home Depot has a Husky brand light with a 200 lumen Cree led in it. It uses 2 D batteries and looks like the sun came out when it's on. For 25 bucks it's a steal. I use mine on duty daily.

4 D-cell mag light, with 5 C-Cell lead "conversion kit" for the ultimate sound that shall not be named.
But really, look over at candle power forums. I use a surefire 6P led and love it, there are source mentioned on candle power that while they do not "discount" (that would be against their marketing agreement) surefire't, they are VERY friendly people to deal with That said, the ultimate (for me) would be a RA light, but I have seriously considered one of the new (price reduced) Novatac's |

You should have at least one you "know" you can rely on in a real emergency, I have a Surefire E2L for that. It's great with a long run-time low power mode, and a second high-output mode.
But I'll take a less expensive Fenix or the like with me in the car/travel/etc. (headlamp in your vehicle is a good idea) |

+1 on the Fenix P3D. 220 lumens, strobe and several levels of intensity. In my pocket 24/7. You will be surprised at how many times you will use it throughout the day if it's in your pocket. I have a PD30, which is virtually identical, but with slightly different medium and high settings. It's freakin' awesome. Also, the TK20 is a good light to check out for around the house use. Uses two cheap AA alkaline/lithium/NiMH batteries, gives 150 lumens of 4000K natural light on turbo mode (which will run for over 2 hours), and costs 56 dollars. |

What about one of these 1050 lumen flashlight:

Nightcore Defender Infinity. +1. It's not a weapon light, but it's amazing for what it is. I use it every night at work and have been using it since June. It's a very badass light. I like the D10 better...I have 2 NDI's that I don't even use anymore.. |

Maglight Cheap, works, made in USA. What more do you want? Exactly. Mini mag lite with LED upgrade. 2 or 3d models with LED. I can outfit my entire house, my truck, and a few other odd places for the price of 1 or 2 of the other brands. Fuck ANYTHING that is CR123, or anything other than AA, really. Show me ANY other USA made AA battery, LED model that, even if it exists, comes in at under a hundred bucks. I have been through the Flashlight snobbery stage. I have about 5 or so Surefires, Streamlites, Pentagons, Fenix, ect that basically do nothihng. Ill never buy Surefire again based on the fact that they are FUCKING ASSHOLES! Maglites get the workout. |

I am strongly considering this light:
Fenix TK40 # Cree MC-E LED with a 50,000 hour lifespan # 2 Modes, 8 Total Outputs * Primary Modes (in order) o Turbo - 630 Lumens, 1 Hour o Low - 13 Lumens, 130 Hours o Medium - 93 Lumens, 11 Hours o High - 277 Lumens, 4.5 Hours * Strobe Modes (in order) o Strobe o Slow Flash o SOS o Fast Flash Lifetime warranty and it uses AA batteries. |
