I got my nice little 9mm SBR upper(TROS 5in and DD M4 7.0) today and went to put it on my SBR lower. Everything is in place and I go to pull the charging handle back...nothing, won't budge WTF! So I inspect the lower to try and find what is preventing the bolt from going back into the buffer tube and i think i locate the culprit, the buffer retention pin. So I take it off and trade it out with another rifle, springs flying all the while, nothing. The bolt still won't clear the back of the receiver into the buffer tube. I'm fucking yelling at this thing as loud as I can at this point(I know it doesn't help).

So now I'm saying fuck it, I'll change out the whole stock and buffer tube. I get everything together with the new tube/stock and give the charging handle a pull...nope. I'm losing my voice from yelling at the god damned thing, so I pick up the scotch and start to chug. Here I am to bitch.

The funny thing is I tried to put the upper on a different lower that I had just to check the function and it worked fine. Now this lower(stag from lonestar) has a "tight" mag well but i didn't think it'd be an issue. My plan was to get it setup on this lower(at the range) and take it out to the range with my SBR lower, just to fire my new toy. Well I start to put in my Hahn mag block and the mutherfucker is hard as hell to get in. It get behind it and give it a push, it gets stuck(not even all the way in). Now I have to spend 20mins getting the block out. I think I have a out-of-spec mag well on that lower.

If any of you guys have any ideas on what I should do about the 9mm lower PLEASE tell me. As far as the Stag is concerned, should I just call em' and try to get a replacement lower? Bottoms up, cheers.

Should of bought a RRA receiver.

Well it's a little late for that now isn't it?

Hate to break this to you, but the same company that makes Stag lowers makes them for RRA as well.

OP, call Stag and talk to them or take it to a quality AR smith and let him look at it.

I'm thinking this.

if you are shaking with anger for something so piddly, you shouldn't own a gun - i think a psych eval is in order

That really sucks.  Especially since you did the paperwork and spent the money to register it as an SBR.

ETA:  If you were planning to use the SBR lower as a dedicated 9mm build, I'd just get the mag block machined to fit the magwell and call it good.

EATA, I misread the OPs original post.  You're sure you don't have an out of spec 9mm bolt carrier?  Does your SBR lower work fine with a normal 5.56 bcg?

wow that would suck

Can you pull it back without the buffer and spring in, or will it just not move at all?

OP, you might want to consider asking the mods to move this to the AR-15 troubleshooting forum.

You won't get as many reads or replies there, but some of the most knowledgeable people we have hang out there, including Quib.

Sorry about your woes & good luck.

This.  Also what kind of internals are you using?  Is it a ramped bolt?  Is it a 9mm or DPMS hammer?

Is the charging handle catching on the stock lock plate at the top? Sometimes the plates stick up to high and stop the handle from moving to the rear.

your a fuggin nut job. When working with mechanical things, getting angry NEVER fixes it.

Gunsmithing requires a certain amount of detachment. Working on a rifle while screaming at it does not lead to the best result.

+1

Same thing just happened to a friend of mine, he had an out of spec charging handle and the bolt wouldn't move at all

I tried multiple charging handles to no avail. I've tried pulling the bolt back without the buffer/spring in it and it won't go. I have two 9mm ramped bolts, one from ADCO and one from M60joe, neither work.

I'm taking the gun to my class 3 dealer/smith tomorrow. Wish me luck.

And armoredsaint you can get fucked. I have every right to be pissed at this damned thing. Way to kick me while I'm down though, appreciate it.

That's a good way to get your BCG stuck in your buffer tube. Ask me how I know.

I'm gonna go with this.  Seriously.  Get a grip.  Its not like someone shot your dog, slept with your wife, vandalized your car, or found out the only one of your three children who likes pie happens to be your only daughter.

I just finished putting my lower together, and was about to head out to the range to test it out. I slapped on the upper, did a function check. FUCKKKKKKK! I completely forgot to put the buffer/spring in. I could not for the life of me get it unstuck, nor seperate the two halves. It took me two fucking hours to finally free it using a knife through the ejection port. I almost sawed the gun in half I was so angry.

I just unscrewed the buffer tube and slid it off, I guess I was lucky!  The bitch of it was it gets stuck by the buffer retainer pin.

What's funny is, I was so mad I couldn't think logically. Had I just unscrewed the buffer tube I would have been fine, but noooo I have to flip the fuck out for a couple of hours, banging the gun around.

Yep pretty much the extent of my operations today. I DID get the bolt stuck in the tube. The handguard goes out past the barrel on this setup so one slam of the rifle on the front of those and it came free.

Anyone know a AR smith in NE kansas?
