i'm posting here cause i need as much info as possible, so if you have an opinion let's hear it.

in short i traded a sar1 for a nib ruger frontier in .308. no irons and i need some glass to try it out.

i have read
leapold is the best @ just under $300
burris @ $250

i can't find these two in the $150 range in stock, or any reviews
leatherwood
millet

i have read of people using BSA @ $50

i would really like to stay under $200.

can anyone direct me to some in stock long eye releif scopes?

what about some comparison between what i have found?

what do you use?

thanks for any help

Keep your eyes open for a used Leupold. It will be worth it.

Here is one on EBay. Maybe you will get lucky on it.

Scout scope

You can also keep an eye on SWFA's "sample list" and the classifieds on 24HourCampfire. They pop up.

Not a scout scope though.

Keep your eyes open for a used Leupold.  I have a Nikon pistol scope on one of my rifles and it seems to do well.

Good luck on the search.

Does anyone read the whole post before responding?  Or do they just not know what a long eye relief scope is?

I have a Nikon Monarch EER (Extended Eye Relief) 2.5-8x28 scope, it rocks.  It'll work as either a pistol or scout scope.  Nikon may now call it an Encore instead of a Monarch, I think it's still the same or similar scope.

Here it is: Nikon Monarch 2.5-8x28   I got mine a year or so ago at Sportsmans Warehouse.  The web page at the link calls it a pistol scope, but I believe it'll work as a scout scope also.

Aren't the Leupold FXII scopes around $250? That's what I paid at a gun show last year for the one on my Steyr Scout. Just don't eat at Jack in the Box a few times and you'll make up the $50 easy.

I am interested in this too.  I've been wanting to put a scout mount on my Swede.

Super Sniper?  WTF?  I thought reading is fundamental...

Having actually owned and used both the Burris 2.75X and Leupold 2.5X scout scopes, I'll mention the following:

Burris has a heavy outer reticle which is much easier and faster to pick up under field conditions.  The inner reticle wire is the same size Leupold uses, so for precision shots the reticle doesn't cover more of the target.  The occular lens is adjustable, so it can be set for the users vision.  The matte finish is less reflective.

The Leupold is a nice one-way range tool, and maybe a bit better made.

your rifles look great!

that is the burris on the m1a?

thats the kind of info i need, the adjustable would be best, i think.

so, the nikon shotgun scope is a no-go??

thanks

Don't compromise on optics.
Compromise on any part of the equation before you compromise on optics.
We are talking $50. Just wait until you can afford the Leupold and don't look back. For many years after the $50 is long forgotten, you will be very happy you were patient and went with the quality.
