Question... who decides which random posts are deleted? Just noticed several posts that have mysteriously disappeared from threads for no apparent reason other than someone didnt "approve" of the point of view. There have been countless aimless ramblings and bashings that go unscathed and untouched that were clearly useless rants. I have enjoyed this site for a while now and have accepted varying viewpoints as part and parcel of enjoying this sport. It seems as though people only see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. BTW, I understand what "off-topic" is and agree that threads should be monitored for consistancy, however viewpoints are simply that... viewpoints and each and every Arfcom member should be allowed to express themselves witout worrying about being "censured".

I apologize if anyone sees this as useless rambling and off-topic.

Funny, in 8+ years I've never noticed posts "randomly" disappearing.  Can you be more specific?

Most likely they rolled off the front page due to the massive amount of posts.  If they violate the COC they get Locked.  They still show up in a search but they roll off faster due to inactivity.  As far as threads getting locked, well, we have rules here for a reason.  This site is the private property of the owners.

Threads are usually only deleted if they contain serious CoC violations, or the OP requests their deletion.

Posts within a thread are usually only edited or deleted if they contain CoC violations.

Can you provide some examples of cases where posts or threads have been deleted simply because they contained viewpoints that weren't "approved"  (whatever that means)

This is a private site and this does not apply.

No.

There are rules about what can be posted on AR15.com. These rules are found in the conduct code, which you agreed to abide by when you signed up for an account here. There's nothing "mysterious" about a post being edited, as a moderator's name and the reason for the edit are tagged on every post that is edited. The technical forums operate with a stricter set of rules than GD does, and that is to keep the posts informational for those who are seeking information. If people just want to gab about useless stuff then they can do it in GD.

There's no rule against useless rants in GD. In GD you can post about all sorts of stuff no matter how serious or silly. You can post about news items or you can post a thread asking whether or not there is going to be some human on robot lovin' in a thread about some TV show that's based off of the Terminator. Personally that's not my cup of tea, but it isn't a COC violation either.

People who want to "express themselves" in a manner inconsistent with the rules of the site should ask themselves why they expect other people to pay for the soap box they want to stand on.

Whne he said "post", I figured he meant a post within a thread, so he should still be able to link to the thread.

If he means "thread" he can explain what the thread was about, and I can go and find it in our trash folder, where all the deleted threads go (and are stored)

Don't tell anybody, but...
I understand from reliable sources that the Mods and Staff are all FEMA trained.  They just practice their "disappearing" skills on a small and normally unnoticed scale.  Thus, disappearing threads.

One day, they will move on to making whole towns "disappear" into one of the camps scattered throughout the Country.

What about the one about Extenze, I figured yall delete them because its easier than trying to edit out all the crap just to have a locked thread.

I have been here a LONG time, and can assure you that threads do not simply disappear, without a *gross* COC violation, as in, can't even be locked, cuz they should not even be seen.  And then, I assure you, the poster(s) of these threads are made *well* aware of the situation.  Really, it's true.

If there's a thread with a LOT of CoC violations (or a ton of people quoting the same CoC violation or inappropriate photo), then it's generally not worth it for the mod/staff to go through a thread and have to delete tons of posts - and that can often result in a thread being locked, and sometimes trashed, if the violations are things we don't want on the site.

I didn't see the Extenze thread, so I'm not sure on the details of that.

I'm still waiting for that BTW. This is not a useless 400th post.
