Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but I couldn't find it....

After the fight with the machine gun nest in front of the RADAR site, the guys are burying the dead. The captain takes a part out of the rifles thrust into the dirt. What part did he pull out, it looked too small to be the whole bolt?

M1 trigger group.

Pull back on the rear of the trigger guard and the trigger group comes right out, rendering the rifle useless.

I thought he just took out the ammo. If he took out the trigger group, wouldn't the rest of the gun basically fall out of the stock?
