doing my annual visit.
I feel naked without a gun. All I have is my FOX 5.3., rape whistle and a phone I grew up in NYC so I don't need any hints on stuff to see. |

Make sure you hit Crif Dogs on St. Marks and get the bacon wrapped hot dog. And don't go to Peter Lugers. Super overrated. Edit: and check out the Malcom Forbes mueum in the Village. It actually doesn't suck, you'll be quite impressed by whats in there. I may go back to bed. It was one of the things on my "to-do" list. (Not the one the wife authored) |

I thought pepper spray was verboten in NYC as well. It is if it's brought in from out of state. According to the law, it must be purchased from an authorized establishment (no on-line purchase), and the appropriate forms must be filled out. I would advise the OP to take care. |

I'll take my chances since it's a less hassle. I'm traveling by plane. |

Go to Sals at the corner of Mott and Broome. Get a fried calzone. Thank me later. 89th and Park. You have nothing to worry about. not necessarily. There is a dry cleaner downstairs and the owners wife was murdered a few years ago in the store. Bronx Man Questioned in Park Ave. Killing Published: June 13, 1996 Detectives were questioning a Bronx man late last night in the beating death of a popular Upper East Side woman who ran a dry-cleaning shop on Park Avenue, the police said. A police spokesman, Doram Tamari, said that the man was being questioned at the 19th Precinct station house in the death of Evelyn Alvarez, 65, who operated the Dutch Girl Cleaners at 1082 Park Avenue for 16 years. The man, whose name was not released because he had not been formally charged, was picked up in front of his home at 9:10 P.M., said Detective Thomas Hill. "He didn't know what was going on," Detective Hill said of the man, who is believed to be in his mid-20's. "He seemed surprised that we got him." Other details about how investigators tracked down the man were not available. But an investigator who spoke on condition of anonymity said the man might have been traced through fingerprints found at the scene. Mrs. Alvarez was attacked, in what was believed to be an attempted robbery, shortly before 5 A.M. on Tuesday as she prepared to open the store, the police said. After a 911 call, officers arriving at the scene saw a man running and chased him for several blocks before losing him. Detectives recovered a knife from the scene, but said Mrs. Alvarez's injuries were caused when her head struck the pavement. Mrs. Alvarez's death touched off an outpouring of sympathy and anger in the community of upscale shops and apartments. She was known as "the lollipop lady" because she would hand them out to neighborhood children. Mourners placed bouquets in front of the business. |

East Coast steak has nothing on our midwestern beef. If you want to man up, go to Club Macanudo for a cigar. 63rd bet Park and Mad??? That's a place I don't mind spending a fortune at. I've been to a few steakhouses in NY and none of them have been all that impressive. If you want good steak go to the Churrascaria Platforma on 49th bet 8th & 9th. I used to live on 49th and 9th. I miss the old neib. |

remember that ukrainian jeweler who got whacked a few summers ago on 6th ave? i was there when it happened, grabbing din-din at citarella with my boss. saw everything except the guy who did it. i heard a *pop* *pop* and was like, WTF, that sounds like a pistol. lol. i saw the victim on the ground. first time i ever saw brains on the sidewalk. it wasn't too long after that event that i swore never to work in manhattan again. |
| I remember eating in a very nice and expensive Italian Restaurant near one of Leona Helmsley's hotels I was staying in, I cannot recall the name. Had five people waiting on me. Waiter brought out an enormous bowl of linguini with clam sauce (white). I was only able to eat about half of it. Rather than the waiter taking the plate away, someone came from out of the kitchen and scolded me like I was a grade school kid who didn't finish my supper. I didn't get upset or anything, I just found it amusing. I like Manhattan very much, but you have to keep your wits about you. I also made a number of trips up into Washington Heights, if you know what that is - I had to employ a driver, I was told the cabs wouldn't come and get me at night. The only thing I really don't like are its airports, especially Kennedy. |

Things I noticed when I went to a Thai restaurant on 23rd street last night

Had to be a dominatrix and customer or brother and sister. They were total opposites. Not trying to be argumentative... just asking... How did you know that you were surrounded by "Libs"? Did you talk to all the people that "surrounded" you? I'd wager that if you sat next to me at a bar, or in a restaurant... judging by how I look, how I dress, and the fact that I have an iPod... you'd probably say that I was a "Lib". You probably wouldn't guess that I was a firefighter, an ex-cop, a firearms enthusiast, a staunch believer in the Constitution, or that (if pressed) I consider myself (politically speaking), to be a minarchist libertarian. Like I said, not trying to start an argument. I'm just wondering. (Oh, and the team was very disappointed that you didn't come out and throw with us. A good time was had by all.) |

The last time the GF and I ate at Peter Luger, she told me on the ride home that I've made better steaks at home. It was weak. There are tons of places I would choose for good steak dinner over Peter Luger. |

Man I love NYC. I've only been able to go once since starting college in 2001. Used to go once or twice a year to see family in Bridgeport (CT, obviously) and Port Jervis. The city was between them enough to justify being there often, heh.
ETA: Yes, I think many of NY's laws (especially the city's) are stupid. I just love the city. |
