Define "devastating".

My father passed away three years ago. There are times when I think of something funny, have a good day at the range, the kids amaze me in some fashion and I pick up the phone to call him...

We are defined in part by the events in our lives and how we react to them.

Depends on what happened and who it happened to.

Some can wake up from coma missing a leg and be fine from minute one. Others can't get past the fact they stubbed a toe in second grade.

Depends on what it is. I found my older brother dead on the bathroom floor, did CPR on him for 1/2 an hour while my parents watched. It's been 4 years, and while I'm over it, I'll never really be OVER it, if that makes sense.
