| The chosen one has said many times that he is going to help the middle class. What is the definition of middle class, or how much income do you have to make to be labelled as falling into this group? |

The middle class is composed of those households that derive their income from labor and are able afford some level of savings or investment. Compare this with the upper class whose income is derived from investments or lower class who live paycheck to paycheck. This is probably the best definition I've seen. However Man_of_Few_Words has a good point. |

Do you have a job? Do you make more than $25K household? Then you are middle class. If you make more than $50K household you are "RICH". |

The Economist had a big piece on the global "middle class" which was interesting because there's been a huge growth in the middle class in China and India in the last decade, and if world-wide recession pushes those people (in huge numbers) back down, then both countries are going to have big social problems on their hands. |

Talking about helping the middle class is a no-brainer.
Is there a clear definition anymore? Also, besides the ultra-rich and the dirt-poor, almost everyone else identifies with the middle class even if they don't technically fit the current definition... Working poor, want to be middle class or believe they are middle class. Recently rich, were middle class and realize they could easily return. It's class warfare with having the advantage of blurring the lines between the classes you are pitting against each other. You can then draw and jump the lines without technically being a liar. I omitted a key idea in my zealous need to reply quickly... middle class = anyone who does not pay taxes...sorry |

Did you look at your 401k today? Your IRA?
Did you worry about your future today as people were getting pink slips? Did you notice your customers have stopped calling over the past few months as you sort through your bills? Is your inventory not moving? And finally, Did you notice a sick feeling in the deepest pit of your stomach, like you've been repeatedly kicked in the balls? If so, you are middle class. that's how you tell.
