Look what they can have in NZ!

If I am not mistaken, since they are A catagory, they are treated the same as hunting rifles.

Link just goes to a bunch of AK type rifles

There is an UZI, some Dragunovs, some AK shotguns, AK rifles, HK rifles, M1As, and an SKS.

Show me another country south of the equator where you can own that legally.

I'm pretty sure they're abundant in Africa

True, since they are A cat guns, you don't need to registar them, you don't even have to tell the cops you've got them.

You can also get the E cat versions, the proper stuff, just no full auto.

If you want full auto toys you need a C, D or F cat endorsment on your licence, very hard to get and D and F endorsments are for gunsmiths and dealers.

C endorsments you can privatly own any FA guns you want, you just are not legally allowed to fire them they are for bona fide collectors and museums only.

How hard is it to immigrate to NZ?

Immigration requirments change very often here.

I'm not too sure what the requiments are now, When I came over 11 or 12 years ago, people were able to buy thier way in I think NZ$200 000 was the minimum amount, I don't know if that still stands though.

Is renunciation of prior citizenships a requirement?

Correct, with the right license, and suppressors are no big deal either, but getting the license may take so long you will be too old to shoot the thing by the time you are approved. ('depending', it can take years)

Re citizenship, I don't know.

Re suppresors in NZ, not a problem, it's encouraged so the noise levels don't piss people off.

Yeah, I'm sure they never get fired too.......
We can own silencers here in WA state, but can't use them inside the state.

To Stangboy555, yes, all rifles / pistols legally owned in NZ are semi auto only, unless you have a C endorsement which means you can have them (FA included) just can’t fire them legally

As said above, an F endorsement will let you fire FA, but those are only given to dealers / smiths for testing / evaluation purposes, not sure if an F endorsement will let you own and keep FA at home though, not too many people with F endorsements like to talk about the specifics of the license, probably cause it is such a grey area, they may or may not be on the wrong side of some law depending on what they do or where they keep the guns.

There was a bloke at the range many moons ago, I never spoke to him but he had an FA GLOCK (I think the GLOCK 18?) some other blokes said he was either a cop and was testing it or he was a dealer with an F endorsement and was testing it for a collector or as an evaluation for the police or military, some one else also mentioned it could have been taken in a police raid on a gang house and they were testing it to confirm it was indeed a real FA and not a semi with FA markings, I don’t know the full story.

I have heard there are a few in collectors hands here which are kept on the C endorsements, but remember, these E and C cat guns are not cheap, they are HEAVELY restricted and controlled and are nasty expensive too, I know of an MP5 which sold for NZ$20K a few years ago and some collections with less then 10 guns can be an investment of over NZ$300 000, so this cool stuff is not that common.

Where are the pistol grips, and why does the SKS only hold 5 rounds?

Was that NZ$200,000 paid to the government, or is that just how much you have to possess for investment purposes?

I saw a picture that I think was from NZ of a USGI M14 that had the selector welded to semi-auto so the rifle was not considered a machinegun.
