Mail an out of state gunsmith a rifle you bought through private sale?

I mean, I really don't see an issue with the gun getting to him, but if the name on the package doesn't match the name that the rifle was originally registered under when being shipped back could there be any legal issues?

Thanks.

You are fine.  Ship away.

I live in PA, and, well you're right, I meant the name originally on the 4473.

I bought it from a friend of mine before he moved out of state and would like to get some work done on it.

It's a heavy barrel Savage BTW.

You are fine.  No worries.  Ship it and get your work done.

If the guy you are shipping it to is properly licensed to receive it you should have no problem. It does not matter if someone else originally bought it and then sold it you

Cool, thanks.

Haha, could you believe the damn bolt action jams?

I was told is has to do with the fact that it is a long action (110) chambered for a short cartridge (.223 Rem), the bullets tend to impact that chamber face instead of making it into the chamber. I suppose it's kind of like what Golanis and Saigas without feed ramps do.

It feeds 95% of the time with ballistic tips like Noslers and VMAXs, but jams up Sierras and most all softpoints.

And when it does feed non-ballistic tip rounds it deforms the hell out of the tip of the bullet and ruins my consistancy.

Fred at Sharp Shooter Supply said he cuts a feed cone into the chamber mouth, which I could probably have a local gunsmith do, but Fred is apparently "THE" guy to work on Savage rifles, so I'd much rather send it out.

They use the same action for both short and long?
I never had a savage

They used to.

Now they have short and long actions.

On the older 110FPs without the accutrigger (like mine), yes.

Anything 110 is long action, anything 10 is short action.

Current Savages have the action matched to the cartridge.

Current 110FPs are .30-06 and .300 Win, and maybe 7mm Magnum.

Current 10FPs are .223 and .308.

I would just go ahead and rebarrel to .30-06 or .300, but mine lacks some sort of machine grove that was cut on the actions for the big .30s, so it would only operate as a single shot.
