| I have recently jailbroke my iphone and was told it is possible to get all of the apple apps for free, Is that true? |
|
It has less to do with getting pirated software, and more to do with opening up the backend of the phone. It lets you do things like modify the interface and add custom ringtones. Apple does not like it, and you run the risk of bricking the phone and voiding your warranty.
You are treading on shaky ground with the apps thing dude. Jacking other peoples money via stealing software is teh ghey. |

There is very little risk of 'bricking' an iphone anymore. The jailbreaking software and techniques used now make it VERY easy and very safe. All of the useful apps are in Cydia and Installer. Play around with winterboard, too. Cydia is awesome, haven't found much use in installer though. |

jailbroke? ![]() ![]() i have heard this term as well, what does it mean? Basically, it allows you to get apps that the nazi apple people don't allow. Just as a clarification, jailbreaking does not mean 'stealing' apps. Jailbreaking allows you to take more control over YOUR device. Most of the apps on Cydia and Installer are free. They're not offered in Apple's App Store, for one reason or another, but they're offered for free anyway. Obtaining 'cracked' apps, like the real Apple App Store ones that you have to pay for, but getting them for free, is a completely different thing. |

You're asking how to steal? Now that you put it that way...yes. Apple and At@t are basically stealing my money by charging an outrageous price for their services. If they didn't take such a large commision from the app devolopers, the apps would not be over priced as they are now. |

If the prices were "outrageous", there would be a competitor at a lower price point which you could switch to. Since they have a lock on the market, I guess the tech ain't easy or cheap to compete with, which means their price isn't "cheap. Recouping R&D expenses while subsidizing the hardware and infrastructure costs means some services cost more than you would otherwise expect. |

Jacking other peoples money via stealing software is teh ghey. I think it's great that people are tearing into the iphone. Apple's always been sort of shady about revealing the true capabilities of their hardware and the best info has always come from the community. There's no effing way I'm jailbreaking my iPhone though. It does pretty well as it is, and I don't want to run the risk of introducing software that might compromise the security of the thing. Think about a spyware app that generates a few million SMS messages a day or accesses the GPS function without a warning. That'd be cute. These things don't exist yet, but I bet there's some 12 year old in Romania right now with more programming smarts than Bill Gates, and he's salivating at the idea. I computed my way through the wild west for long enough. It's nice here in the Apple bubble. Everyone might be lobotomized, but they smile a lot |
