I talked to a retired gentleman/new client (in his early 80's) today. He mentioned that he was a hunter and a practicing gunsmith. I always avoid talking politics at all costs to clients, as it can cost sales. Since he said he was a gunsmith, and in an attempt to show comraderie, I mentioned that I was a life member of the NRA. Big mistake.

The shit hit the fan. In a stern voice he says " I am not  a member of the NRA" "They defeated the assault weapon ban and put all those assault rifles on the streets". "I will never be a member."

For a split second, I was thinking he was saying that he was unhappy with the NRA because they didn't help defeat the AWB and  perhaps he was a GOA member. Then I listened some more and processed what he just said. I quickly spun the conversation in a new direction and saved the sale but I was stunned.

Apparently his choice of guns is the right ones, but ours are not. I didn't have the heart to tell him that his Caddilac parked out front was a waste of resources for the environment and was overkill and should be banned and that we should all drive Prius's.

Anybody else ever encounter a Fud Gunsmith? ....and yeah, never talk politics etc with customers.

Yeah...I work with one.

He is a hard core reaganite conservative, but he just doesn't like black guns.  Oh well..
