I'm with AT&T. Mrs. Evil has expressed a desifre for a PDA-style phone this time around.

What do the smart kids on Arfcom recommend? We'll end up getting two of the same phone (his/hers).

What's a good phone with useful apps and features?

Needs are sending pics, video, email, limited surfing, lots of texting and use of any onboard or aftermarket apps that are useful in our daily lives.

Thanks in advance...

AT&T - iPhone

Or the Blackberry Storm if they have it - a rival to the iPhone in every way (and I'm an Apple fan)

You have AT&T...there is only one choice.

...I don't even have to tell you which phone it is.

That should tell you something.

I've got the ATT Tilt.    I wish i had wated for the Fuze or whatever it is.....

The phone has windows mobile....it kinda sucks unless your a power user and push it.  But there are a ton of apps and you can usually get them free if you look in the right places....send me a pm on those places if you ever need pointing in the right direction.

The reason i went with these phones is b/c they have an actual qwerty keyboard.  The iphone does not....

That being said....the iphone is super easy to use....easy to get used to, and i feel like it's an all around more lighthearted phone than a phone win windows mobile.

My next time around i'll either be going back to a normal phone, or an Iphone.......Main reason i went with the tilt is so i could check my e-mails while not at work.......now i'm doing work on satrudays......so i'm kinda tired of it...

For a user like yourself, or at least what i think you are, i recommend the iPhone.

For a "power user" who likes to tinker and play with, maybe even flash new firmware, i recommend a windows mobile phone like the AT&T Fuze.

For a hardcore business user, i recommend any of the various BlackBerrys.

For your wife...   definitely the iPhone.  It fits all your criteria and is the slickest phone to use out of all three.

ETA - unless by "sending pics" you meant multimedia messaging.  In which case the iphone won't work for you.  It does NOT have MMS capability.  You can easily email them with the phone however.

iPhone is horrible... I got rid of mine and made an excellent choice with the Blackberry Bold. I will never go back to the iPhone. Go into the AT&T store and have the rep tell you which he thinks is better and they should let you play with them so you can see. If sending video and pictures is important to you the iPhone has no flash on the camera nor does it have a video camera. The bold has both plus more.

Go with the iPhone. You can't go wrong, and won't be disappointed.

Blackberry Bold is the go to phone for ATT. The Iphone blows, plus you cannot get insurance on it, so when you break it, you buy a new one. Plus the touch screen is maddening if you do not have little asian hands.

The BB Strom can be had for 50 bucks. Mine should be here tomorrow.

Im in the same boat Evil. My POS Razr just died and i need to get something better. Thinking about a BB Curve or something like that. Ive got hands like buches of bananas so a touch screen is not the best for me. Matter of fact im running to AT&T right now.

I like my att 8525 (older version before tilt). The keyboard is good. i can put my own apps, music, whatever on it without having to hack it or use some app store. I can tether it via bluetooth to my laptop for internet. got multiple mail accounts hooked into it, many applications including ssh, and an IM application that does aim, yim, msn, icq, google, and more. Oh, I can also keep spare batteries on me and buy larger capacity batteries as well.

for power users i love my 8525. but alot of people like the iphone. its easier to use and has alot of support. but until apple stops being a bastard about apps and changing batteries ill never have one.

Now while the lack of video ixney's the iPhone for evil, normal people without bratwurst for fingers can use the iPhone touch screen just fine.

I had a phone with video once. I think I actually did send one video with it...because I just wanted to see if it works. How often will you really want to do this?
You can email pics to people, and get pics through your email, as well as through text messages. They just make you jump through a few hoops to view it if you get it through a text message....just email pics. What's wrong with that?

iPhone is great, except you cannot send/receive videos or pictures (except for pictures in emails, which is easy to do).  Other than that, it's a great phone.   Also, though, if you expect to go a week without charging, move on.  With light use (listening to music for a couple hours, maybe a 20 minute call, a little browsing), I have about 50-60% left on the battery after a day.  If I don't charge it, it will get to the 10% warning by the next evening.   Not a big deal if you work in an office, or, say, sleep in a house with electricity every night.

I've got an ATT Tilt also, it's nice in some regards but iirc they don't even sell it anymore around here.

My next purchase will most likely be a Blackberry, unless HTC comes up with a Windows Mobile phone that really blows me away (Touch Pro/Fuze might do the trick, I haven't looked into them too much yet). Yes, I love the apps and the interface is not too hard to adjust to, but I'd just like to go a full week without having to soft-reset my phone to complete a call.

I carried the 8525 for almost 2 years, as well as a extra battery for it. What a power hog. I went with the BB Curve 8310. Half the weight and twice the battery life. Glad I switched.

Good grief, I'm jealous.  Alltel is all we can get here in rural southeastern NM.  (Alltel's phone selection SUCKS!!)

Was thinking about trying to get Verizon or AT&T, but was told our service would be canceled if we don't spend at least 50% of our time in one of thier home areas.

My brother has AT&T.  He spent two months here last summer and they threatened to shut him down ASAP.  Said it was in his contract.

Just got two iPhones for me and the wife, absolutely love them.  If you put the 5 minutes into jailbreaking it you get everything the iPhone was missing.  Video recording, a digital zoom camera upgrade, and there is even 2-3 MMS (picture Texting) applications.  You can also play around with themes and backgrounds and get a truly unique phone if thats what you want.  I have never been on the Apple bandwagon till I got this phone, and we love it.

FWIW-This is the wife's first foray into anything but a basic cell phone and she absolutely loves it, so user friendly for her to surf, email, text, and use apps.  Well worth the price of the phone and plan

BB Bold if you need a more serious work oriented phone
Iphone if you want a phone that will change how you use a phone.

The battery issue on my Iphone anyway is if I use the WiFi a ton. I use an internet radio program on it all day just using the 3g and can go a few days between charges. However using WiFi will kill it in a few hours. I have also used it to watch movies when the power was out.

Plus how can you go wrong with a phone that does this?

App to track menstral cycle...

ETA: I have used BB's for the last 6 years or so. I still have a BB World Edition on Verizon for work. My iphone replaced a BB pearl

I use the video and camera features...alot. Being able to send these videos and pics from my phone to another is an absolute must. Is that "MMS"?

Without video and phone capability, there will never again be another "Operation: XXXXX" thread. I can't get my 'Jason Bourne' on without that shit.

A qwerty-style keyboard would be nice, but isn't a requirement.

The more durable the phone and high res it's pics the better.

I currently have a Samsung Sync. The pics are decent and the video is good, so long as you're holding it steady.

Yep.  That's "MMS"

It's really too bad the iphone doesn't do it.  Otherwise it'd be a perfect fit for you.  You could jailbreak it and get those features, but i doubt that's something you want to delve in to.

Maybe try one of the phones designed with an eye towards txt messaging?  They have full keyboards and have the features and ease of use you're looking for.

I personally have an AT&T Fuze.

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=HTC+FUZE(TM)&q_sku=sku3090226

And i love it.  But it's not something i'd recommend for the normal non-business crowd.

I dunno though, are you a tech geek kinda person?  If so, the fuze would be perfect for you.
