My little sister in law just arrived from Morocco in early January to go to school here.  She is a Muslim and is willing to answer any reasonable questions you have.

Stupid or rude questions and comments will be ignored.

Many here have never had a chance to actually talk to a person of Muslim decent.  Here is your chance.

We will be here for an hour or so.

And before you ask, she isn't going to post pics.

How do you feel about the Qur'an's view on Jihad? Is it spiritual Jihad, or a violent one?

Does she know any radical clergy?

I would love to hear about her experiences of being a Muslim woman seeking an education.  I've recently read "Three Cups of Tea" and the fact that many Muslim men wanted educations for their daughters (in the book) goes against nearly everything I've heard from mass media.

Why can't many of the Muslim dominated countries and the western countries come to any peaceful agreements?
What is your view of the "radical islamists"?
What is it that makes a people as passionate about their beliefs as people of the Muslim faiths?

I bought and read the Koran when I was 15 years old.

I think he meant something along the lines of "decapitate them".

Which language did you read it in?

This is a serious question:

I have to be honest, if you look under my username you will see the name of a friend, a guy I served with, was roommates with for 3 years, went to Basic with, shopped with his wife and kids with.  He was KIA in Mosul in March 2005.  I have a hard time...having anything other than ill will toward Muslims.  Explain to me the short version of Islam.  Something that will help me...understand why I shouldn't hate all Muslims.  I'm certainly not trying to be rude, but I honestly have a hard time with it.  I'm not rude or outwardly and asshole toward Muslims.  But on the inside I burn with hate and I don't like it.

First I think we need to define what Jihad means.  Here is what she tells me.

Qur'an says jihad is defending your country and religion from bad people.  This means people that want to do bad things to your country.

This would take forever to type what she was saying, but essentially it sounds to me just like if someone attacks the US, but remember over there the country and religion are intermeshed.

Basically, it is when you are attacked.  She tells me the Bin laden and terrorist "jihad on the US" is bullshit.

Does she think the majority of the Muslim world is willing to split their social and legal philosophies from their religious beliefs and form representative secular governments and legal systems, or is religious-based law and legal customs ultimately inseparable from religious beliefs in most of the Muslim world?

...Basically, is Islam willing or even able to set aside Shar'ia and exist within secular, representative nations?

Also, a Muslim cleric in England admitted in an article recently (within the last couple years) that "not all Muslims are terrorists, but almost all terrorists are Muslim".  What do you think leads to this?

Yep I have worked with a few from Bosinia and Pakistan. All of them were great people and we had some very interesting and civil discussions on various topics related to Islam and culture. They are not all bad just the radicals and I hate radical Christians as much as radical Muslims FWIW.

<––-Not a Muslim, but a Christian.  The man who discipled me is a Palestinian American, so he obviously had a pretty good insight into Islam.  He stated that "jihad" can mean any kind of struggle.  If you're going on a diet, it would be fair to say you have a jihad against jelly donuts.

Thanks, my point in asking is that people seek a cult or a personality on their own.

Does she adhere to a different demeanor overseas as opposed to here...(in dress, or social interactions)?  You know the "when in Rome stuff?

For one thing, Islam doesn't consider Christians or Jews to be unbelievers. They are all Abrahamic religions and worship the same God. Harming a Christian or Jew, except in self-defense, is forbidden.

Dispute not, unless in kindly sort, with the people of the Book; except those of them that have dealt wrongfully with you: And say ye, "We believe in what hath been sent down to us and hath been sent down to you. Our God and your God is one, and to him are we self-surrendered"

The problem with Sharia is it is applied differently in different countries.  She likes Sharia law as it is applied in Morocco.

She doesn't understand our laws that well yet and it would take too long to go through it all.

Women's roles- Women rights in Morocco have come a long way, in those countries that women are not she does not like it.
