I took a break from my usual thrash and other heavy metals to try out some more power metal. So far, I've really been digging a lot of stuff from Iced Earth and Demons & Wizards. Anyone got anything to share?

Not really power metal, but has a lot of the same elements. Like a neofolk/powermetal lovechild. You may or may not enjoy it.

Music like that reminds me of the movie "Over the Hedge" when Hammy the squirrel slams his 100th cup of coffee.

May want to check them (blind guardian) out as well. Also... Manowar (the origonal kings of power metal) Hammerfall Angora Rebellion (the german band, not the ghey 80s biker rockers) amon amarth (viking power metal) kamelot also iced earth has a masterpeice of an album called "the glorious burdon" you should check it out, different stuff from the monster/hell spawn stuff they usualy sing about. |

Been listening to a lot of brutal stuff lately. SuicideSilence, Abominable Putridity, the heavier Meshuggah. Mmmm..good metal. |

amon amarth (viking power metal) Amon Amarth is NOT Viking Power Metal. "We play death metal. We write about vikings so, therefore, some refer us to viking metal, but I have no idea what that is. I can't imagine the viking’s [sic] veer into metal at all except on the swords and stuff. And musically, I guess they only played these strange lip instruments and some bongos or whatever." —The Metal Web's interview with Johan Hegg (sorry, I nitpick sometimes ) |

Yup, Kürsch and Schaffer. I enjoy a lot of the Dark Tower references in their work. I've already got a little bit of Blind Guardian, but not a lot. I'll check out some of the other groups, but I already know that Amon Amarths' vocals just aren't what I'm looking for. |

Yeah Amarth is Norse-themed death metal. And that bongos quote is great. I met a guy who could be Johan's fuckin brother in my local grocery store once. Just this big fuckin' Scandinavian guy who was something like 6'4, muscly and was oozing metal. i wanted to walk up and ask where his band was playing. |

Strapping Young Lad - Far Beyond Metal They sort of blend a lot of different styles. This song rules. |

They SUCK and they are also horrible people. |

| I tend to prefer truer traditional metal, but lately, I've appreciated Mastodon: http://www.mastodonrocks.com/videos |

Someone already mentioned Hammerfall so I'll bring "3 Inches of Blood" into the mix. It's rocking. One of the best interviews I ever did while working at a radio station was interviewing one of the guys from 3 Inches of Blood. He was hilarious. Dunno if 3IOB is very power-metal.....not very progressive with the guitar work or anything. However, there is NO shortage of head-banging on any of their 3 full length albums, especially if you like classic, Maiden-inspired stuff. |

Musically they are HORRIBLE. They are also some of the most unethical business people in the music world. TOTAL SHIT BAGS, especially that damned bass player/manager of the band. |

Growing up thinking hair metal wasn't cool, but learning the error in my ways in adulthood, Iced Earth's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" was probably my first venture into Power Metal and I nearly wore the album out.
Then I got into King Diamond (not really Power Metal, but I considered it hair metal too back in the day). Aside from the "peculiar" singing style of KD, musically, they are bad ass. Lots of cool riff changes. And recently, I found out why Judas Priest was so loved by the jean jacket crowd of the 80s. That shit rocks too. In the last year, I've just about bought and wore out all their albums. |

Probably not power metal but I enjoy their music.

Lordi is not exactly power metal. I already have their full discography anyways. |
