Don't feel bad, I was 12 days without power from an ice storm this year, Fema was no where to be found until after restoration was nearly complete and even then, it was for an audit. Fuck FEMA. | It was cool to make fun of the Katrina victims, but it sucks when you get affected eh? The truly sad part is FEMA is failing the ice storm victims just like they failed the Katrina victims. Two different administrations, same shitty result. Disband the bastards and go to regional response. |

FEMA's not coming. As one whose been through many REAL hurricanes and floods (east coast of Florida), unless you live in a trailer park or a ghetto, you're not getting shit. You don't hear about it because the average, hard-working, no food stamp-no Section 8 housing-no welfare-self sufficient American doesn't bitch, moan, cry and DEMAND that the gov'ment save them....they just pick up what's left and move on.
The City I worked for was tore to pieces in 2004 by direct hits by two hurricanes, applied for FEMA money and finally gave up because the paperwork and requirement were virtually impossible to meet. Miami got MILLIONS of dollars even though the nearest storm was 100 miles away. Not ONE FEMA inspector ever set foot in Miami. Sure, Katrina was bad, but all you heard about was the lame, lazy assholes in New Orleans that behaved like animals, shooting at rescue helicopters and ripping the football stadium-shelter to shreds. What happened to the poor bastards in Mississippi and Alabama? How about Texas last year? The storms and flooding in the Midwest? NOTHING. Everything always goes back to that shit-hole New Orleans. Where did all the "volunteers" go? Where did Habitat for Hooptie-Owners go? Where did the Red Cross go? It sure as hell wasn't where the hard-working victims had been forgotten. FEMA is nothing but an extension of Welfare. Don't worry about the millions of people that did everything they could to prepare for and mitigate the damage caused by these storms. We gotta hand out the money to these morons and leeches on society because they're too stupid to take care of themselves. I think it speaks volumes that the "Chosen One" hasn't even mentioned the millions of people without power in sub-zero weather. After all, most of "those" people didn't vote for him. Looks like payback-time is here. Where's the Media and the outrage for those people? |

I'm white as are all of the people within a 10 block radius and beyond and 50% or better are in FEMA trailers right now, as am I. I took 2 -3 feet of salt water and mud into my house fom Ike. I live in a neighborhood with homes ranging from $140K - $275K and FEMA has helped significantly. I wasn't sitting around waiting for a handout, but I did let them know I needed help as I did not have ins.
We had an ice storm back in 97 and were without power for 1-2 weeks, which was the longest time w/o power to that date I could remember, even with hurricanes. Remember that this is SE Texas and we rarely have freezing weather beyond 1-2 days so you can imagine the shock to our system. Katrina was the first time that I had ever heard of FEMA and I am 35 and lived all this time on the coast. FEMA is for everyone and they do help. Sometimes it is a game and you have to be willing to play, but they are there to help. Be patient. Wes |

I used to work for FEMA, and worked Mississippi's gulf coast for Katrina. You sound exactly like some of the folks who were irate because they were missing some shingles and had some water damage, and we were not getting to them fast enough. ...because we were working this x 45 miles long. -
