Refresh me if you would; does Federal income tax withheld, social security tax withheld and Medicare tax withheld and reported on an employees W-2 equal the total that an individual paid into Federal withholding taxes, or is it just the Federal income tax which is deducted from the taxes owed?
Thanks–– |

SS and Med taxes withheld are separate from what you prepare on your tax return, shouldn't take it into account.
The only time you would is if the employer made an error in the calculation, or you do your own business/farm/etc. and have to calculate self-employment taxes. The ss tax and med tax withheld on the W-2 are just pissed away, nothing but a reminder of how much was taken. |
