Did anyone at all actually like me?
What was so bad with it, I constantly hear how vista is the next ME and I must admit I actually enjoy vista never, ever really had a problem with it. What made ME so bad? For the record I have have used 95, 98SE, 2000 (my all time favorite,) XP sp1,2, and 3, Vista and now 7 64x |

There were a number of things to tweak, necessary to get it to work well... but once you ironed it out, it was a good OS. I preferred it over Win98 by a mile. The biggest problems I had were memory limitations and file size limitations. WinXP is certainly more stable, but I rarely had problems with ME. I also don't have any issues with what I've seen of Vista. You have certain hardware requirements, and then some things to tweak. Beyond that, it seems to run good. Bottom line is that I expect anything box stock, such as an HP system from BestBuy, will run like shit until it's gone over. |

Blue screen of death became mainstream with ME. Only for people who didn't know how to install it. And as far as I know, the "upgrade" was very unstable... but I think that's par for the course with all upgrade versions. Get the full OS and do a clean install. That's the only way to go. |

Very much a stopgap OS in feel.
As previously mentioned, W98 with a lot of partially developed extras stuffed in. Prone to being frustratingly unstable compared to W98, unless meticilously coddled and updated. If you had a hardware configuration with correct drivers and a stable version of Me, something as simple as adding a CD-ROM or video card could sent it into fits of crashing. Last MS OS using DOS in the background. I have a few versions of Me in the collection, just for reference. I've played with installing it on what for the time would have been very powerful systems, and it was still, terribly unstable. If I have to install a MS OS in an old system, I'll use W98-SE or W2K-SP4. |

UAC takes about 10 seconds to turn off. |
| *shrug* In my experience ME took longer to get to be unstable and crash prone than 95 did. My 95 installs were re-installed roughly about every 6 months to keep it running right. My first ME install lasted until I dropped the computer and got XP on the next one. |

| I think most people's Windows problems are related to bad installations. If you start with a system, a blank hard drive and a Windows CD, you will rarely have problems. But too many PC makers pile on a load of useless crap and never check to be sure that it doesn't cause problems. Corporate IT departments are just as bad or worse. The next problem is that instead of including a genuine MS-Windows disk, they include a "Restore" disk that lets you put the system back to the same screwed up state it was in when you bought it. |

Vista is Windows ME Jr. Regardless of where the fault lies, it was a horrible rollout. Driver problems, terribly annoying "features", etc.
I've got the beta of 7 running, and I'm quite impressed. I'm running it on an old box, and the ONLY problem I had was getting an older video driver to install. Memory and CPU wise, it's running at least as good as XP did, and I actually think it's running faster(apples:apples, both clean installs). |

for some reason compaq's running windows ME. maybe it was ALL computers running ME> the mouse would all of a sudden STOP working. you could hook up multiple mice and it didn't matter the mouse was no longer functioning. it ended up requiring a fresh install of ME to get the os working again.
other than that it was OK> they started restore points with ME if i remember right. i NEVER used them but that feature was there

I've run across a few people who liked ME.
I didn't use it much, and the few times I did play with it was on machines that had issues already. That really didn't inspire me to get it, but I can't say that was really ME's fault. By the time I was in a position to leave 98SE, 2k was out and I saw no reason to go any other way, until XP SP1 came out. |
