| So my friend burnt me a DVD with some files on it. I put it in the DVD drive, and it says that the disc is empty. I've tried two different DVD drives, one IDE, one SATA, but I get the same result each time. Both the DVD drives I tried will read other DVDs. My friend made sure that the files actually did go onto the DVD. Any suggestions? |

It sounds like he either mixed up the discs or it's a bad burn. |

either it was a bad burn or he used some software (like roxio) which kept the session open and never closed the disc, and since you don't have said software you can't see what is on it. He says he just used drag and drop. hmm...well windows supports that.BUT you have to tell it to actually burn the disc. (It shows 'ghost' files there but they aren't actually burnt yet.) also if he has roxio installed it probably used their proprietary UDF format. Which windows cant read. (There probably is drag to disc drivers somewhere) I'm not sure about Nero's inCD (same thing different brand), I just know Roxio wasn't writing standard UDF for a long time. Can you see a ring where info is burned on the disc? (The color of the disc will be slightly off from the rest (info is burned from center to edge so the less stuff that is on there the closer said ring is going to be to the center) |

He says he doesn't have roxio or Nero isntalled. |

Ok, I've installed it, what do I do with it now? reburn the disk... Ok, I go to burn the disc, I get the options to continue the disc or ignore previous sessions. I choose continue the disc and then I get an error saying invalid UDF tag. Apparently my friend has ImgBurn as his default burner. Should I try and do the same thing with that program? |

We'll just redo it all tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the help. |

That's because you don't have a DVD drive on your PC - it's a CD drive. It says right there, "CD Drive (E:)." If you are absolutely sure the drive is a DVD, then your PC is not recognizing it as one. Until it does your computer will never read the DVD. |
