[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Why the Taurus hate? (Page 1 of 3)

| I have fired two Taurus firearms fairly extensively - the 92 copy and the 24/7 and both functioned flawlessly. Their fit/finish might not be as nice as some, but those pistols are hard to beat for the price. Are they that bad? |

They said they fixed it, but they didn't. Fuck Taurus. |

You know how many times they failed and caused me grief?? Oh thats right.... THEY HAVENT! I like their stuff... Besides, I like the safety lever or the 92 on the taurus rather than the Beretta. The Airlite or whatever its called (cant remember right now... Have a fucking migraine) has been pretty accurate. |

Big fan of Taurus here. In the past I have owned two Taurus autoloaders and three Taurus revolvers (is that five total Tauruses or Tauri?), never a glitch with any of them and the value for cost was phenomenal.
Not to start a shit-storm, but I have had more issues with Springfield Armory as a brand than I ever have had with Taurus. Note: I still love SA, I just don't buy their lower-end 1911s –– my XD Rocks though! |

Honestly Taurus got it's reputation as a lower quality firearm before the internet was invented. Some things are hard to shake.
In the early 80's when they bought the Barretta factory, I think they probably got some employees who help them improve their quality. My first .357 revolver was a Taurus and it is one of the few new guns I ever bought that was a total piece of shit. |

I went to a friends house to do some shooting. We finished up and went inside to watch tv and clean our guns. Guy says "Hey Basp, what do you think about this?" The frame of his Taurus 9mm pistol was cracked. Of course I told him to send it back for repair. (This was his ccw.) This dumbass knew it was cracked, shot it and carried it for defence anyway. |

I'll let you in on a little secret - the Taurus models PT92, PT99, and 917 are in my opinion - (and yes, we are blessed to own a more than a few Berettas) - every bit as good or better than the Beretta 92 type pistols at a lot less cost, but there are tons of folks out there that are either flat out Beretta snobs (God knows I was was one till I finally broke down and bought a PT92), or have had bad experiences with either their revolvers or polymer guns, and they then luv to trash the folks that 'did them wrong'. Admittedly, when you buy a 92 type Taurus, inspect it well for function, because Taurus customer service is close to non-existant. (I once order ten grip screws thru Taurus Florida, and I swear it took 4 moths to get them).
Like WalMart, I luv Taurus 92 type pistols for all that they are -and I say this owning a Beretta 92 Brigadeer Inox, a 92 compact Inox, and 90-two (which are also all very very fine guns) |

Every gun you buy is a roll of the dice, regardless of whether it's a Taurus or a Nighthawk. Manufacturing isn't perfect, not matter what the attention to detail applied. The difference however, is when you buy a Taurus, your odds of getting a pile of crap are much greater than if you buy a Beretta or Smith and Wesson.
Every manufacturer puts out a lemon now and then. The higher priced manufacturers usually fix the problem quickly and efficiently, and it is usually a minor problem to begin with. The lower priced manufacturers will put the same amount of attention into fixing your problem as they did in creating the problematic piece to begin with. It comes down to how much grief you're willing to deal with to save a few bucks, and how lucky you are when you roll dice. Spending more money generally stacks the odds in your favor. |
| My brother has a PT145 and even though it seems cheap and the trigger is crap, I found it to be extremely controllable in rapid fire due to the large front sight. I can't think of any other 10rd .45 that small that costs less than $400. I don't know how durable or reliable it is though. |
| The Taurus PT-945 is one of the best shooting, most balanced .45 handguns ever made. I got one in 2004 at a gunshow for $325 brand new. I also have a PT92 and a PT-145 that have been great, never had any issue with them. I prefer the the Taurus 92 over the Beretta mainly because of the safety, on the frame is much better than on the slide. |

I paid $279 for mine NIB at a gunshow in 2005, I carry it everyday, not a hiccup in the last 3-4 years. |

My Taurus PT 1911 keeps functioning flawlessly despite what many here will tell you. I bought it as a cheap entry into 1911 ownership, and I think I'll stop there as I actually prefer revolvers.
My friend has two WWII era Colts that fail to fire every 3 or 4 rounds. My Taurus is much more accureate and never fails to fire. Just my experience with them. |

Their wheel guns and knock off M9s are good stuff but what pisses me off is that door stop of a 1911 |

At the range I saw a guy's millennium go BANG BANG click click. He asked if I could look at it. I didn't take it apart, but something had broken and the trigger wasn't resetting.
Back in October the gun store I work at got a 24/7 OSS. The dovetail on the slide for the rear sight was cut crooked. We sent it to Taurus and we haven't gotten it back yet. Their revolvers seem ok though.

My wife's 85SS revolver developed a timing problem after about 5 years of service. The cylinder would lock up after firing 3 of the 5 rounds.
We sent it in, they fixed it. Total turnaround time was 28 days door-to-door. That was almost 5 years ago and the little gun has run perfectly ever since. |

Taurus is not my fav however S&W and Colt have put out some serious crap as well. Colt 2000 anyone, anyone? I had a S&W 6906 that literally fell apart. Sigma, sigma why are you such shit. I had an HK 9mm that was a jaammmooomatic. Oh,let's not forget the Sigpro.
My point is that EVERY manufacturer has put out shit and if there is something even small wrong with a gun it can and will malf. Taurus' problem is their employees rather than their product. YMMV, if it doesn't', DIAF! |
