What do you have and what do you love or hate about it.

I've been looking at the Zune 120, the cowan, aquos, and Ipod versions.

I was originally going to get just an MP3 player but they were $100+ for 8-16 gig of storage so for double the money I am looking at 120 Gig and video capabilities. All opinions appreciated pro con or otherwise.

What is your favorite CD/DVD ripping and converting software (I already have some I am using). I own lots of CDs and DVDs.

i'll preface by saying i despise itunes with a passion.

wife got an ipod classic a few years ago and that was my first experience with itunes and apple products. not too terribly impressed.

i got an ipod touch 16 gig back in november. first i was hesitant to even open the package based on my experience with itunes. however i gave it a shot. glad i did. its the coolest electronic device i've ever owned. crystal clear video, external speaker, millions of applications that you can add to it, most are free, wifi, internet (somewhat limited in what it'll load no flash products for example), email, texting,  oh and music.

i've carried the thing every single day since i've got it. the fascination with it hasn't diminished in the least.

its a great portable entertainment center that you wont even notice carrying in your pocket. its about 1/4 of an inch thick at the most.

a few downsides:

1.battery life sucks. playing games, watching video, surfing internet, all that will kill the battery in about 4 hours or so. you can buy an aftermarket battery charger that'll run off of AA's. energizer makes one.

2. i still hate itunes but you can get some alternative music management. i think winamp has one you can use now.

3. internet. the browser is safari. apple wont release the source code or something. you're unable to install any flash players for the browser. places like youtube and break mobile work just fine. but most .swf or .flv videos wont load.

4. no expandable memory. hasnt become an issue for me yet. i've got over 1000 songs and probably 8 full length movies, couple hundred pics, ebooks, etc and i'm not even 1/2 full on the capacity.

as far as video converters...i use anyvideoconverter.com it works well for what i need it to do.

before i got the ipod touch, i almost bought the creative zen x-fi. has a lot of great features. one that is awesome is you can use SD flash memory cards. those are cheap. woot.com was selling 8 gig cards for less than 20 shipped.
only reason i didnt get the zen was that it's small. screen is 1/2 the size of the touch.

i also looked at the zunes but for the cost, they're not even in the same league as an ipod touch.

I have a 160 GB Ipod 5th gen. LOVE IT.

My only gripe is that an Apple brand video output cord is $50. And you have to choose composite OR component. Each are $50. I want BOTH..on ONE cord...for LESS than$30, you fuckers!!!!!!!!!

The older ipod video cords are like $3 now...

Ive had Zunes, Ipods and Cowons. heres my Breakdown

Zune: Sound quality is very poor, video is great, PC interface is good and bad. Codec support sucks. Best used for Podcasts.  Best for def people.

Ipod Classic gen 5 and 6: Sound Quality is fair, video is fair.  Best used for everything. Codec support sucks. It is excellent at being average. Best used for itunes users and people with dull ears.

Ipod touch/IPhone: Sound Quality is fair, video is great. Codec support sucks. It is excellent at impressing your friends that you had $400 to spend. Best used for email and crappy games and looking coool.

Cowon M3: Sound is amazing, Codec support is amazing. No video though and this unit is discontinued.

Cowon D2: Sound is really amazing, Codec support is amazing, FLAC and OGG...etc Too small for video, but it will do it. SDHC card support is great. 40hrs playback.

Cowon A3: Sound is really amazing, Codec support is amazing, all codecs ever made. Video is great. 40hr+s playback. My current player.

Cowon also has a few new models out now that are worth looking at. The Hot Cowons are the S9, O2 and the D2.

for CD's
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

rip them to 320kbs for best mp3 quality, or use FLAC for lossless rips
