wow...3 times in a week.
when will people learn? –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CA_AIRPORT_GUN_CAOL-?SITE=CAVIC&SECTION=SPORTS&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT Man with loaded gun arrested near LAX LOS ANGELES (AP) –– A contract employee at Los Angeles International Airport has been arrested after police found a loaded rifle in the trunk of his car. Airport Police Sgt. Jim Holcomb says Markus Sargent was taken into custody Monday on World Way West, a roadway used by employees entering the airport. Holcomb says a .22-caliber long rifle was found in the trunk of Sargent's car during a random check. Holcomb says Sargent told authorities the gun had been handed down through several generations of his family and he forgot it was in his car. Sargent told authorities he had planned to put it in storage. Sargent was booked for investigation of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle. He was released late Monday after posting $25,000 bail. |

Where are these peoples' cars being searched? Are they in the lane to pick up or drop off passengers, or are they in the parking garage?
I'm fairly sure that you aren't breaking any federal laws if you have a firearm at an airport, provided you don't attempt to enter the "sterile areas" past the metal detectors. |
|
This is AMERICA. Americans carry guns. It’s part of the national culture and people who don’t like it should go back to whatever little country their ancestors crawled out of.
It would be like reporting that you are arresting Frenchmen for possession of bottles of wine or Canadians for having a hockey stick in their car. What they ought to do is investigate people who don’t have guns, those are the folks who are up to no good. |

From the looks of the pictures and videos from the other cases. It looks to be the drive up/drop off areas outside of the terminals. |

There was always a hockey stick in the bed of his truck. When I asked why, he replied "I am Canadian, we always carry". |

For the gazzillionth time like it's been posted in the other threads about this, it's NOT TSA. LAX has it's own Police Department and it's these idiots. It's illegal to transport a loaded firearm in your vehicle in California. That's what they got him for. The other 2 guys were for: Guy # 1 illegal transport of an assault weapon. According to the LAX police you aren't allowed to make any stops between home and the range when you are carrying an assault weapon. A up interpretation of the law.
Guy # 2 unregistered shotguns. There is no law in California for mandatory registration of long guns. Just plain on the part of the police department.

The latest guy was taken into custody Monday on World Way West, a roadway used by employees entering the airport The other 2 guys were at the intersection of Century Blvd and Sepulveda Blvd. Century Blvd runs East and West. At the Western end it becomes the road where passengers are dropped off and picked up at LAX. It also will take you into the parking garages for LAX. It loops around in a U shape and comes back out to the regular public street (heading East). Sepulveda Blvd runs North and South along the edge of the Airport. The intersection of Century and Sepulveda is where the LAX Police Dept had a checkpoint set up that nabbed the first two guys. The first guy is an avid shooter and had legally registered assault weapons. He was picking up a buddy at the airport that was coming in to L.A. for a paintball competition. They were heading to the shooting range from LAX. The 2nd guy had been to the range and was going to pick up his wife at LAX. Both were stopped at the checkpoint and consented to their vehicles being searched. Guy 1 was arrested and bonded out. Guy 2 was NOT arrested but his firearms were confiscated (illegally). Guy 3 was arrested and bonded out. |

I thought of the first incident as I was pulling into philly international to drop off a friend. I had my CCW and an AR with me. They had a big ol sign saying all vehicles are subject to search out front when you pull in.
I think the spot checks are bullshit. I feel probable cause or at least reasonable suspicion should be needed to toss a vehicle. The more I see this stuff, the more I agree with the statement that the terrorists ended the American way of life on 9/11. |

I don't know if the intersection of Century and Sepulveda Blvds are public property or airport property. I got a feeling it's technically airport property which allows LAX Police Dept to set up the check points. The 3rd guy I'm pretty sure it's airport property since it's an employee entrance. |

The article said he was booked for having a loaded gun in a vehicle, a big no-no in CA. not always. CCW permits are readily available in some counties in CA. Butte Co where I grew up is pretty much a shall issue county if you jump through the hoops. Despite being issued in that county, it is good for all of CA unless it is restricted to that county or in other ways, something I have never seen. There were a few times where I was outside some ill dvised law in CA. Usually it was me CCWing in SF while there was a no handguns law in effect in the city limits. Im not advocating ignoring laws, but I felt at the time, and more importantly, the courts felt that that law violated CA's preemption clause. There are a lot of people who are acting in protest to the laws on the books that make CA citizens less equal than the rest of the country. I believe, and time will tell if Im right, that those people are in the right, and the state law is wrong. |

Are you trying to say that police have the right to search individuals on private property because the land owner says its ok? |

Where's all the DUI check-point apologists at who said something like this would NEVER happen, and they were just getting drunks off the roads?
Look up the friggin term incremental change. Where are we going to be in 20 years as BS like this becomes accepted and standardized across the country? Before it was just drunks, et cetera, and now its people like us under the spotlight. This snowball is getting bigger... |

I was just pointing that out. about the only time I know a rifle would fall under a CCW is when a weapon is under 26" in length with a valid CCW, but at that time, it would not be considered a rifle. most likely, this is not the case. A better question for you would be, do you believe this should happen to this guy if all he did was have a loaded rifle in his vehicle? |
