I have a EO on my AR. Something I've always wondered about in the "proper" mounting spot on a A3 style rifle. I have seen so many pics on here where some are mounted as close to the rear site as possible and some that were almost sitting on the front rail. Does it matter or is it just personal preference? I have a EO516 & Aimpoint 3X on my first AR, but my second just a 512, both have Troy BUIS, the 512 I just found the ballance point which is pretty far forward looking to me.

I mounted mine as close to the rear sight as possible with a TROY BUIS co-witnessing. And I don't know if you bought yours used or not but they come with two differnt types of mounting screws. One allen-head screw and a thumb-twist know with a slot for a flat-head screwdriver. I used the Thumb-twist knob.

I prefer as far forward on the receiver's rail as it'll go

I've seen some mount on the handguard rail, haven't tried it that way myself but I have doubts about POA/POI staying consistent

Too far back and you can't access the buttons easily

Just enough forward to allow easy access to the buttons, in front of the BUIS.

Personal preference.
