I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise, but has anyone seen Valkrie? I do like WW2 movies and am wondering if this is worth seeing.
NO spoilers please. |

I not a fan of his either, however i would like to see the movie if it is halfway decent. None of the theaters (two) within a hours drive are showing it here.......... |

i have heard it's disappointing
RT rates it 62% and it seems like a movie designed to appeal to critics. |

i have heard it's disappointing RT rates it 62% and it seems like a movie designed to appeal to critics. RT only rated Stepbrothers ~53%, and The Happening 19%. Both of those were worth a watch. I saw a blurb with the director of VK and he said its not a WWII movie, its a suspense set in WWII. So if you go into it expecting the next E.T., your gonna be disappointed. |

You do know that it's based on real events, right? I'm sure there will be all kinds of Hollywood bullshit thrown in, but it's still in essence about historical happenings. Yes, if I remember correctly, Tom Cruise"s character should end up getting shot via firing squad. What I mean by no spoilers is don't give the the blow by blow of this particular movie. |

I'd pay the full price of admission just to watch that scene. |

I have it on good authority that Hitler is still alive. He escaped to the South Pole in a U-boat and now is being guarded by Nazi flying saucers. I thought he was cloned in "The boys from Brazil". They were like 20 child Hitlers running around.
Yes...that too. |

As much as a loathe, loathe, loath Tom Cruise,I had planned on seeing it when I heard about the project.
However,as soon as I saw the previews I knew I wouldn't be able to sit through it.It took about .004 seconds to hear American English being spoken in it for my suspension of disbelief to be killed. |

Or cheezy German accents by American actors? Or the typical British accent that most Germans in American WWII movies seem to have? |

It's about as good as you can get and, as a plus, Hitler dies. |
| My hesitation to see it is based on the fear that they are setting it up to be some great noble good vs. evil thing, when it was really a desperate act of mutiny when it became apparent that the war was lost, and they just wanted to try to salvage what they could, and they didn't think that could happen with Hitler still around. Will Hollywood portray the conspirators as trying to stop the Holocaust? I might hurl. 1944 seems a little late to start caring about that. |

There was always an undercurrent of mutiny amongst the OKH. There were many plots, but most of them foiled. This one was the most publicized, and closest to being pulled off. |

I saw it today (Christmas). I thought there would be a lot of extra BS, but they stuck to the story. It wasn't as bad as thought it would be. From what I've seen in the previews it appears to be about as historically accurate as Hollywood can make it. Had Colonel von Stauffenburg succeeded, he would have possibly saved the lives of millions of people. This is a significant bit of history that has been overlooked for a long time. |

Sorry, but Fuck Tom Cruise. Now with that said, my mother-inlaw wants to see it and no one wants to go with her. So I may end up taking her simply because I actually like my mother-inlaw. Heresy!!!! |

I think he had a friggin' club foot.
