I posted this in war gaming, but I think I will get a reply faster over here.

hi, i just got the COD:WAW game for pc. I loaded it up with no problems, and tried playing it, but it was real sluggish.
I ran a program to find out if my computer is compatable with the game, and it turns out my video card wont play it...
can someone explain to me how I am supposed to remedy the situation?
I assume I will need to buy a new video card. but what is the process for that? do I just swap them out? can someone explain this, or provide a link?

also, my computer is an HP Pavilion dv6985se Special Edition Notebook PC. It has...
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 64-bit (Build Service Pack 16001)
4 gig ram
2 processors running - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz (2.00 GHz Performance Rated at 3.89 GHz)
Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family)

any help/suggestions appreciated.

also, does anyone know what interface slot type my video card has?

This.

There's practically nothing you can do if your laptop is not powerful enough to run the game.

With a desktop, you could upgrade the video card.  You cannot do that with (almost all) laptops.

You're stuck dude.  Vid cards aren't available new from anyone for laptops as you can only get them used if someone gutted one and has it on e-bay or something like that.

FYI though.  Laptops can play games.  Asus and Gateway make gaming ones for under 1500 that will play any game out there right now maxed out at 60fps (yes anything) excluding Crysis.

You need to make your game res smaller. Dont play it at the max, see if it will play at 800x600 or something.

Haven't played COD5, but COD4 runs pretty well on rubbish computers. Onboard graphics are not going to be very good, desktop or laptop.

If you have the Intel X3100 video chip the downfall will be the shared memory.
You could try the settings at the minimal but I have my doubts.
