I just received a new computer, I have it all set up however I have no sound coming from my browsers (IE and Firefox). I have sound from the rest of Windows, just nothing from sites like youtube.  I have tried reinstalling flash and still got nothing. Any ideas?

No Sound in Internet Explorer

Resolution:-
1.Open Control Panel.
2.Double Click to open Sounds and Audio Devices.
3.Click Sounds tab.
4.Scroll down to Windows Explorer, which is present under the Programs events.
5.Select Complete Navigation and Start Navigation.

Click OK/Apply.

ETA You might want to check the other sounds under "Widows Explorer", or just reset your Sound Scheme to Windows Default.

If that doesn't work, you see that little speaker picture next to the menu button under the video. Click it and turn Video sound up.

Do you get the clicking sounds like other windows? Is it just flash sounds from videos and stuff?

Doesn't vista allow the muting of individual applications? If you have sound everywhere else I would guess this.

Open IE.

Then.

Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right by the clock and go to "Open Volume Mixer" see if anything is muted in there...

Just a guess.

It does, you're right.  It is not muted there either. However, when I checked the speakers volume is registering sound from FF, but I'm not getting anything out of my speakers.

Is Apple Quicktime installed? Try uninstalling it and see if you get your sound back.

Try this... at your own risk. It's the Registry.

Go to START-> RUN -> type regedit then hit enter.

Navigate to:

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

If it doesn't exist create a new String value named “wavemapper“. As value give it “msacm32.drv“. IF IT DOES EXIST, close Regedit and don't save any changes. You're screwed and we need to find a new solution.

Close all browsers then open Youtube and test the sound.

I found a solution

GO TO ” My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32″ FROM REGEDIT.
ADD THIS LINE:
wavemapper REG_SZ msacm32.drv
ENJOY THE VIDEOS.
