Anyone around here do Crow hunting. My brother told me people used to have cassette tapes with crow calls on them. It sounded like it would be a bit of fun, but I can't seem to find any CD's or Mp3's with crow calls. Is there anything illegal about this?
Eager to see if I can pop any with my ciener and ar15. |

Reminds me of an old Andy Griffith episode. Remember that one?
He takes a purdy blond gal out to show her how awesome he is with a shotgun. She politely watches as he shoots at crows and pretends to be somewhat uninterested. Then, when Andy is at a skeet shooting competition, he about drops dead when he sees that she has entered the contest!  Turns out she's a pro and wins it.
With today's TV being painted with coat after coat of PC paint, I'd be surprised if they even air that episode again. Imagine that: censoring an episode of The Andy Griffith Show.

at least here in PA using those is legal. shit load of fun too. we usually just park the truck at the edge of a feild, open the doors and let the tape play. We have the best luck with a tape of "crows fighting with an owl". also just started using an electronic predator call so that we dont have to have the truck there. it has crows and owls and you can "overlap" the calls.

Stalk them with a 17HMR or a 22 in the woods on edges of fields for a real challenge
You'll get one shot..............two if your VERY luck or quick. I had an on-going 'war' with them when I lived in MI........it was a hoot. One of the smartest creatures out there.

| I've never done it, but know several people that have. We've got crow call tapes at just about every sporting goods store around and I've heard that they work pretty well. I've even seen crow decoys. I've never heard of anyone eating them, just shooting them and letting them lay. |

I have a FoxPro caller and the call I use is called "Dying Crow". This thing is amazing. If you can hear crows in the distance, the caller will call them in, and they are pissed when they show up. Add in an owl decoy and you are good to go.
I haven't been out hunting them in a few years now but I think that's gonna change this year. |

Ones aroun dhere are smart bastards..I killed one a couple summers ago, let it lay wher eit fell...a little while later the rest of his "congress" showed up and raised up a helluva racket.

A friend of mine got a electronic caller and tape from Bass Pro shops, It works too!
Its a hoot to shoot crows! I use a .12 gauge and a 17 remington. you knock one down then they reaalllllyyyyy get pissed! Then you start shooting the hell out of them. I usaully park my ass underneath some pine trees...and camoflage is the name of the game! Another guy I know makes and uses crow calls,he's a damn expert at it hes had them circling abouve me fourty-fifty feet off the ground, standing wide open in a bare field. But to use a hand caller, you have to be damn good! I have discoverd crows are real smart and have a good memory too. Once you hammer them, you have to move onto another area, say a mile or so away. You might be able to use the old spot after 4-6 months. Corw killing is fun as hell! I would rather shoot crows then just about anything, including deer, foxes, etc. Coyotes a close second The only thing that might beat out crow shooting is probably prairie dogs.... looks fun as hell, but never done that...not too many of those in SC |

Check your game laws, here in Georgia we have a season and a limit.
Hunting them with a caller is fun, but more shotgun work than a rifle job. If you really want to get fancy, there is a DVD called "Eating Crow" that shows advanced techniques. Once you have hunted crows in an area once, they are on to you. They are very smart birds. My screen name is a nickname I picked up from my duck hunting friends. I would kill any crow that flew in range, even if it meant passing up a duck. |

They are indeed migratory. They're here year-round too - but not the same ones in the same quantity from season to season. You (and I) just happen to live in an area where their winter and summer ranges overlap. I don't even know when our season is - it's been a while since I killed one. |

Crow hunting is a BALL !!! But when you call them with a caller they fly so your 22 may not be to good, use a 12 Ga. Depending on what call you use, they will come in fast and pissed off, or if you use a "Passive" sound, they will come in slower and less on "Alet" It is addictive, the other thing is get in low trees or cover, the higher the trees, the higher they fly so bring them down to you and smoke them

We used to call them in with an owl call. Then blast the hell out of them with shotguns. After a few boxes of shells we would move as the crows wouldn't come in anymore.
They will come in to a hoot owl call though. Something about an owl will drive them crazy. We never used an electronic call, always used a mouth call. |
Crows He, he.....
LOTS of fun with them. There's a campgroung next to where I live and crows are better (or worse, depending on your view) at dragging trash out of garbage cans than cats OR raccoons. Fortunately, though the campers and their garbage are gone for the time being, there was a group of trappers that stayed in the campground for a week and disposed of all their carcasses close by, so I still have something to hunt over.
I seem to have the best luck when there's snow on the ground. I have some East German snow camo that works really well.
Oh-and ARs work just fine for crows. |

There is a season on Crows in Ohio also, Crows are considered a Migratory Game bird because of some dumb ass treaty signed with Mexico many years ago, whatever.
Every States season is different because under the treaty you are only allowed to hunt crows so many days a year, Ohio's season is June-March and we are only allowed to hunt them on Fri, Sat and Sunday here. Most States have a Predation clause and can open the season up year round but that will never happen here in Ohio, I think Texas opens their season up because it seem that Texas is the only State smart enough to realize that Crows are a Bird killing, Crop destroying nuisance. Crows are very intelligent, when you call crows the action is quick and fast but may only last 20 minutes or shorter because it doesn't take them long to figure you out if you aren't set up or hidden pretty well. Farmers around here will shoot them year round and even tell the Game Warden about it and damn near dare them to press charges for hunting out of season, usually the Game Warden just stops them and tells them "I don't want to know about it, if I don't know about it I can't do anything"
I have watched Crows and Blue Jays destroy eggs and I have watched Crows Pick a Corn Field clean, I do my best to take as many Crows out as possible. |

"where is the law Drew...WHERE IS THE LAW????" I'm from SE OK.. our peanut farm can be swarmed by them. we have to kill them out of self defense.. its spooky to see hundreds of big black birds swarming around in all the trees. |

Unless you have a predation permit. My family raises pecans and we try and kill them all year. It is never enough. There is no way to kill enough of the bastards to really make a difference. We have the game department put out poison for them but it doesn't really put a dent in them either. |

We do alot of crow hunting after deer season. We use a vareity of mouth calls and electronic calls.
Actually just got back a little bit ago, got 25 crows this morning. 52 is the best we have done at one location. Makes for some fun and fast shooting when you find goods flocks of birds. |
