I want to buy a Casio cell phone off ebay.  It is a Verizon only phone.

I see a 'phone unlocking' kit for $10.... scam?

I may be wrong, but I thought "unlocked" phones were only for hopping on whatever GSM network you wanted.

Are Verizon phones technologically compatible with any other network (Sprint, maybe)?

I have no Idea... I thought an unlocked phone would work with your network when you put the sim card in it from my old phone.

As I understand it, an unlocked GSM phone does let you swap SIM cards and go on your merry way.  For other systems e.g CDMA/TDMA, even if it's unlocked, your provider needs to agree to provision it on their network.  I believe there have been new  regulations passed in the last year or 2 regarding unlocking of phones, but I'm not current on details.  Maybe check  out the forums over at http://howardforums.com

If it is one that requires a Sim card it can be unlocked. Just call up the Provider and tell them you purchased the cell at a Garage sale.

They will give you several sets of numbers to enter and it will be unlocked.

I have did this several times recently.

Tmobile is a GSM carrier.  Verizon phones (not GSM) won't work on it.
Edit:  Well I say that, but which phone did you get?

That's a CDMA phone.  It won't work on Tmobile's network.

It looks like a Verizon only phone. It will never work with T-mobile.

+1

Any unlocked phone will work on your network.  If you call the carrier for a phone they can give you a code and instructions on how to unlock your phone.  I also have T-mobile and they unlocked my phone while I was still under contract (so I could use a foreign SIM overseas).
