Most seem to take themselves pretty seriously.
I couldn't say with certainty whether they are "for real" or not. I'm sure most think that they are, but the truth is that few, if any, are doing more than talking shit, doing a bunch of half=assed "training", and making all of us look bad. |

| Near my place in Northern Michigan there is quite a bit of Militia activity going on. There are a couple of militia-owned surplus stores that i have been in and these guys aren't fucking around. I/m sure there are also a bunch of dipshits out there playing war but the serious guys aren't hard to distinguish. These guys up north live and breathe that shit. |

Idiots and fools, 99.99% of them. I say that because I am sure that .01% of them is there somewhere- but nobody has been able to show proof of them yet. Kind of like bigfoot, somewhere there may be the self appointed militia that is not a gang of fools- I want to believe.
They want to dress up and play Soldier, without having to do any of the work and sacrifice demanded of a real Soldier. They think they are actually doing something important, but in reality are just airsofters with real guns. There are hundreds if not thousands of ways to direct your time, effort, and money that will have a far, far greater impact on our nation and defending our rights. People who actually understand this do these things instead- things that matter. They claim to be the descendants of the Militias of our Founding Fathers, but are not. They are in no way what our founders intended the militia to be, and bear no resemblance to the militia as the Constitution calls for it. They want to play Soldier, yet want to feel important- so they conjure up all this horseshit about how they are defenders of the Constitution and the real defenders of this nation. They want all the fun and "glory" of being a Soldier, but without the effort, sacrifice, discipline, or that pesky going to war thing. |

At the begininng of the militia wackiness of the 90's, 5 guys walked into my shop and declared they were starting a militia that would "Grow larger than the US Army". They wanted generals stars for their uniforms. Generals stars, being an item in pretty low demand, are pricey. I told them how much they would cost. Afetr much discussion, they all left the store as Colonels instead. The discussion was once they had enough membership paying "dues" they would promote themselves to Generals and have the "unit supply" buy the stars. I don't think they ever "earned" that promotion.
