How much room do you have? Could use sandbags, build a small berm or put up a trap using steel and a sand bok bottom

Dirt berms work well.  How much area do you have to work with?

I know this probably won't fly but...

After the Box of Truth segment on sand I built a portable sand box. I had just bought my ACOG. I slapped a target on the front and put almost 500 rounds into it. Not one came out the other end.

I have quite a bit of room, I dont want to mount up dirt I would like to built a 6 ft tall 3 sided wall kinda like the angles of an octagon. But im not sure what to built it out of. Stacked logs? Stacked railroadties? Im not sure. very low mantanance. Its only .22 so it shouldnt tear it up bad.

Just .22's?  Your backyard range is like mine then.

First I used stacked tires filled with dirt,

Until I got smacked in the glasses by a bounce-back.  Besides, the wife was not all that happy with the appearance.

These days I built a wall out of stacked railroad ties between vertical 4x4's.  So far no problems, I can tack targets directly to it and it looks neater.  It's lasted about a year now with no real degradation.

Ties were $10 each, With the other lumber and a bunch of lag bolts cost was about $500. It's fine with .rimfire, but I would not shoot it with anything else.

Best to never make assumptions about intelligence/common sense.  Not a swipe at the OP just a fact of life unfortunately.

Dirt berm.  Make a U shake out of dirt walls, thicker and higher for the impact area.

If you want to get SERIOUS about making a range, the NRA has good publications on the subject and get into lead abatement, noise, and a host of other issues.  If you want a plinking area, make a hill.
