I need someone who has an XD 40 and calipers or micrometers to measure the width of the slide. There are two widths on each side. The top and the bottom where it engages the frame.
I need the widths of the XD 40 3", 4", and 5". If possible, I would like to get the width of the 9mm 5" as well. Thanks in advance! |

Quoted:
I thought the slides were all the same width. No my Tactical 9mm (1.056 width, .908 height) and my SC 9mm is (1.096 width, .943 height). The SC slide is bigger. I instantly noticed the differences when I bought the SC visually before breaking out the caliper to compare. The 9mm and .40 are made on the same frame/slide I thought. |

The tactical 9mm is one dimension I didn't have. Thank you very much! The full sized 9mm slides are thinner than the SC as the shorter guns needed more mass/thickness to slow the slide down some. The thickness of the slides on the bottom portion is very consistent so far. Looks as though only one shim might be required, but I won't know for sure until I get real measurements. Hopefully, others with calipers will chime in! Ok, know that these dimensions were from the bottom portion that is the wide point from the sides. The thinner area of the Tactical slide sides is ( .918) and the SC is (.958) My earlier measurments are the wider bottom portion and the height with the slide removed. |

I have adjusted my numbers accordingly. All you numbers are exactly .006" over what my calipers got for the apparently same dimension on my pistols. Just close your calipers all the way and make sure they are zeroed. Fortunately, the design has enough clearance in case your slides really are .006" thicker.
You have confirmed my suspicion that they used the same widths on several different slides. I just hope they did so with the 40! Thanks again. |

I have the XD-40 service 4" The top of the slide measures 0.952 The bottom is 1.093 Both measurements were taken directly over the rear sight. Hope this is what your looking for. Thank you! These dimensions line up perfectly with what I have seen so far for the 45 and the SC 9mm. Now all I need is the 3" and 5" versions of the 40. I am sure the dimensions of the .357 sig and 45 gap probably fall into the same range of dimensions I have so far. If anyone has these pistols and wants to contribute, please feel free. I appreciate all the help I can get! |

My XDs are in .45 ,so I can only help with a bump .
BTW ,OP . Before you use these measurements for anything scientific ,you should be aware that several dimensions on the lower part of XD 40s and 45s were altered for different production runs . For instance the current runs have a drilled out area at the inside corners of the frame opposite the area with the feed ramp ,and IIRC a few thousandths were taken of the slide also to allow a flex in this area .(could be wrong on the slide) Prior to the mod of the original design several cracked blocks were returned for replacement .After the modded versions were made none had this part failure . Sorry I can't give a better description or pics ,I''ve been driving a lot the last 2 days and I'm finally relaxing with some rum and Coke . XDTalk or some other XD forum had a series of writes ups about the mod so people would know how to tell the difference between the older ones and the newly manufacture ones . As said ,none of the modded guns have failed and the original 40/45s are lifetime warrantied . |

Shims are only for the thinner 9mm slides. Seeing more measurements wouldn't hurt my feeling at all! I posted this over at XD talk as well. |

sounds like you got most of the info already. I saw this thread and I have a few xds and a chicom micrometer but I don't know how accurate it is. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn286/jt556/xd003.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn286/jt556/xd001.jpg 2nd pic from left to right xd 40 4" barrel .952 top of slide 1.093 bottom of slide xd9 4" barrel (stainless finish) .912.5 top of slide 1.055 bottom of slide xd9 sub compact 3" barrel .960 top of slide 1.105 bottom of slide xd45 tactical 5" barrel .952 top of slide 1.093 bottom of slide hopes this helps.... Actually it helps a lot! This confirms that some slides are in fact, .010" to .015" heavy from the standard. We will have to account for that in further production runs. Its tough to make a one size fits all pusher that will hold up to the force this thing will have to endure! Fortunately, we already put some extra room into the design. |

So, how much is it gonna sell for? When I looked, it was gonna cost me about 500 bux for sight pusher. Trip to the gunsmith was much cheaper. I don't want to be construed as advertising as I am not making a penny off of them. Check out the site on in the picture for details. I just designed it. My friend did all the work. |

Just a little grease to protect the ram and sight. That sucker won't break! |
