So I got a call today from one of the Auto Warranty Scams that seem to be going around these days. I decided to play along for a bit...and act interested in buying. I get past the first person who takes my name and other basic info and move along to the second guy, who I can ask "questions" to. I explain that I just won a couple races last weekend with my car, but that the engine is knocking real bad now and the 3rd gear synchro just doesn't feel right. He (Jason, or so he says) transfers me to a "Supervisor" to ask me more questions...namely is the car running right now, and I say not for much longer, and he just hangs up.

So....that proceeded to waste approx 20 mins or so of their time. Good, but not good enough. I need suggestions for plausible scenarios to keep them on the phone and waste their time. I have unlimited minutes on my celly (which I didn't think they should be calling anyway) so no issues there.

I have some old firecrackers around, so I was thinking that one time I'll be "cleaning my guns" or something, and "shoot myself in the foot" and let the fun being.

Also, I have an old credit card number that is no longer valid, so I was thinking of persuing the "I want to buy" route...and seeing how long I can keep them on and running the card number.

A third scenario, the chick that called at first sounded like she might have been cute, so that could be another avenue.

Basically, I'm frustrated the fuck up with these dipshits, and I figure if I'm wasting their time, than maybe thats one hour they can't be scamming anybody else, so the more sophisticated my strategy is, and the longer I can keep them on the phone, the better.

Did you get a phone number from them? They always have the caller ID blocked when they call me.

About two weeks ago they called me up.  I had them on the phone for about 40 mins while they were trying to get my to extend my warranty.  They initially wanted me to pay $3400 (for 4 additional years).  I had them down to under $2100, and that was for 5 years!  I felt good about myself after that.  I was still telling them it was too expensive though.

They hung up on me.

My cell always shows a number, but if I call it, its never any good. This particular time it was 802-525-4519. It seems like I always get these calls from different numbers so I think there is some kind of number spoofing going on.

They called me and I reported them to the PA AG for violating the Do Not Call list.
