MUMBAI, India – Officials and media reports say at least 16 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a series of attacks by terrorist gunmen at seven sites in Mumbai, including two luxury hotels.
The Press Trust of India said at least 16 people were killed in the attacks. Johnny Joseph, chief secretary for Maharashtra, said 90 people had been injured, but refused to say how many had died. A.N. Roy, a senior police officer, said police were continuing to battle the gunmen. "The terrorists have used automatic weapons and in some places grenades have been lobbed, the encounters are still going on and we are trying to overpower them," Roy says. My drinking buddy Ajit is from Mumbai. He doesn't have TV right now, so I get the sad task of letting him know what's going on.
Prayers outbound for all those involved. The info I currently have is they have at least 4 of the attackers captured, although they were injured. I believe they should probably turn them over to the Ghurka Regiment for "processing". ETA: Ajit is a former Indian soldier. I just got off the phone with him. He's on the way over, and he's angry as hell. He lives about 50m from a mosque, so having him over here might be a good idea for now... Woe betide any of the loudmouth-type guys who frequent that place should they cross his path. There are a lot of nice folks there, but the slightly-to-the-right-of-Genghis-Khan kind of folks tend to drown them out. |

I's say 40% odds Tamils, 40% odds Kashmiri connections and 20% strictly Paki connection Now that both Pakistan and India have the Bomb, they are going to be pretty whoopsie around each other for awhile. then again an AQ or Iranian connection is not to be discounted if there was some slight or perceived provocation |

The Somali pirates have no desire to provoke a major reaction from a local military that can bring a lot of power to bear, and could nuke them is sufficiently provoked. AND this is a severe provocation. Besides what is the Somali motivation, some of their bros bit the big one, leaves more booty for them. |
