Had 1 Interview, Waiting to hear if I get a second....  but only because I don't really want to go back to turning wrenches. If I were Applying for Diesel Mech Jobs I would have 3 by now.

No such thing as an unemployed Diesel Mechanic, Even when the economy sucks.

3 weeks ago I was let go after working for same company for 27 years.   Our company was bought out 7 months ago. New management didn't like the fact I was making more $ than the VP's.  So, they let me go.  I think they're gonna regret it when they find out who just hired me.

I work as a restructuring and asset leveraging consultant, primarily to fortune 1000 companies. my job is to winnow out the deadwood and assess the correlation between job positions and company productivity and solubility. In other words, I come in and lay people off for a living. Business is just booming, and I'm looking at a huge Christmas bonus this year.

NOT just laid off - GROUNDED!  As in:  you ain't gonna fly again - EVER!  42 years and now I'm a full blown SLUG!

Oh, the unemployment insurance has been extended for another 13 weeks - check with you UE office and re-submit.

13 X $450 is a nice chunk of change!  Shame it has to go for food and shit like that!!!  Think of all the ammo it would buy!!!!

Like maxx86 said above. Never give up. It will get better.

My quick story: Working as a traveling member of a Project Management team specializing in building power plants from the ground up and upgrading oil refineries to increase capacity. Long story short, I was making roughly 50 bucks an hour, working 70-90 hours per week. Lots and lots of money, blah blah blah, but lots and lots of traveling. My wife was unhappy with this arrangement, so I quit with a crap load of money in the bank  and no debt, thinking I'll get a nice job in our new place of residence. Well, it didn't turn out that way, and suffice to say I know make about 75 grand per year less than I did before.

Where am I going with this? Well, for one, the big money I was making didn't make ANY happier than I am now. I make a lot less money, but I am surrounded by 50 family members where I live that I see all the time. I have an active role in my nephew's life as his shithead so called Dad bailed out on him.

Yeah I can't buy the latest Noveske or 6920 whenever I want like I did before, but there are some things you can't place a price on.

Been out of work since April.

Worked a couple odd jobs, computer networking, warehouse, only temp jobs.

Had interviews with Boeing, L-3, BNSF Railroad, ATS, Lockheed, the Navy, UPS, FEDEX, not a fucking bite.

Had an awesome job lined up with Northrop, but big Navy cancelled the program and therefore the job.

I am about ready to use my VA education benefits and go to school.

Fucking fislammajammaobamammaama better get me a job.

This thread sucks....seriously.
I just survived a layoff from two weeks ago, and I think that was mostly luck.
No telling when the next round is coming...shitty time right now.
Im happy to have made it through the last cuts, but it still sucks being around to pick up the slack...they fired some really good people, people I worked closely with.

I still got a job but the wife got a very raw deal.  She was looking for another job about half heartedly and her boss found out and fired her.  They said she violated company policy and so she can't get unemployment comp. She has been out since the middle of September.  Lots of people hiring around here, she has had a lot of interviews but the the employers have so many people to choose from that they are being really picky and she is pretty much average on the skillset.

So, this may be a personal question, but what do you all do for money? I kind of feel the ax hanging over my head and it has me sweating bullets. Is unemployment enough to live on?

I guess that depends on your states laws.

Here in PA I get a % of my highest quarter form the last year, so scince I was actually selling cars up untill June or so, I'm OK; in fact i may be taking home more than if I was going to work right now

In AZ the top amount you get is 240 a week. I was making 100k a year so its not going to be much. Just living off savings for now but it wont last but a month or two longer

Yap, transfered to a new location which I had to fund at my own expense.  3 months later they eliminate the position which I found out they were planning before I got transfered and they needed someone basically without a family that was willing to move to fill in till it was shut down.  Now they "might" be able to "rehire" me somewhere else but it would be starting all over again which I am not looking forward too.  So ended up having to pay my way out of my old apartment lease to take the transfer to try and advance myself as well as move out there so the savings went to almost nothing then they pull that crap.  All for 35k a year salary

People arnt going to Vegas. Tourists with no money = No tourists = no Vegas income.  I read somewhere that Vegas is dropping 10,000 tourists a month.

Guys, apply to your friendly local State Department of Correction, we are always hiring and it is a booming industry. And hey, if you try it and find you hate it, at least you get paid all through the academy.

Good luck to you all, you have my prayers.
