There are a lot of threads about how some gunstore owners are "A Holes". And even though I own a gunstore I have no doubt that is true. At our store, we are known for our customer service and that has lead to our success.
On the other hand, there are some "customers" who are ass holes in themselves. Had one today. Two guys come in and we are having a great conversation when one of them asks to see a Taurus PT 1911 with CT. I clear it and hand it to him and he points it (laser) at his buddy. I tell him not to do that it he looks at me like who am I to tell him what to do. I re iterate my request and he stares at me. I then reach for the gun while asking him to point it towards the wall. He then says "you know what, I don;t need you telling me what I should and shouldn't do". The friend who had the gun pointed at him, looks puzzled as to what just happened and they both leave. As a firearms instructor, I cannot help pointing out safety issues. Am I wrong? |
He was a retard, however at a local gun store that also has a range I was at the other day had a similiar incident. Only it was the guy behind the counted pointing the lase at another guy behind the counter to give a demonstration. He was safe though he had the laseree close his eyes first! The guy he was demoing it to had never owned a gun before and was shocked to see the guy point a gun at his friend, then he laughed about it. I pointed out a poster that would make a more appropriate demo target and got the ole " It is'nt loaded, does not even have a magazine"

Sir, FWIW there are some gun stores in my area that I simply will not patronize because the people on the other side of the counter are axxholes. That said somewhere in my training I recall two axioms to the effect that you should never point a gun at something you do not wish to destroy and to always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Your customers broke both of those rules and deserve the fact being pointed out to them. The fact they are to infantile to accept their mistake should not deter your pointing out that you do not accept such in your store. JMHO, 7zero1. |

There's one small store that I go to where the owner will point the rules out and likes you to ask if you can dry fire it (he doesn't want people going crazy and wearing down new guns. I always try to go to that store first.
The other store I go to always has a nice selection and can order anything, but I do see some questionble behavior in there. Today I saw an employee rapidly dry firing a pair of revolvers as he was walking around the store. Bad muzzle control and overall poor knowledge of the rules. I would prefer to shop at a store where the owner cared enough to educate the customers on the rules. |

If I owned a gunstore I would have two signs that were extremely obvious so that no one could miss them.
"Felons can't buy guns and you can't buy guns for them, it is illegal." and The Four Rules of Gun Safety 1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded. 2. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to destroy or kill. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. 4. Be absolutely sure of your target and what is behind it. |

One of my ex-fellow employees did that to a woman, who was pointing the gun at people out of cluelessness, he was actually given a talking-to by the store manager. He was a little harsh.
It's all in the delivery and the audience. I've asked people not to point guns at me and most are sheepish and apologetic. |
