I'm trying to grill some burgers on my Amana outdoor gas barbeque grill, but the burners are only putting out a low amount of flame, no matter how high I turn the dials. Its a new tank of gas, and this happened three weeks ago too, but the the last two times it worked like it should, with the burgers cooking at the Medium mark, but I have it on High right now, and the temperture reads only 200 degrees. What could be wrong? How can I fix it?

is the gas line valve fully open?

Make sure the valve on the tank is fully open.

the valve could have checked.  turn the valve on the tank off, wait a couple seconds and then reopen it SLOWLY.  if that doesn't work it sounds like the regulator took a shit.

ETA:  is this an exchange bottle or one you've used before?  OPD valves fucking SUCK, could be the valve is bad on the tank as well.

and also make sure the POL is screwed into the valve tight.

Use a crowbar to pull all of that gas stuff out of your grill, then build a fire out of oak or pecan wood.  When the fire burns down to coals procede to cook a burger that will make your mouth have an orgasm.

You're welcome.

This is the answer.  I've had it happen to me a couple of times.  Always turn the valve on the tank on SLOWLY so the safety valve doesn't trip.

Mine does that with a full/too full tank –– not enough vapor space.

Like oearlier post, turn it off and let it sit for a couple, then relight it.

Mine has always stayed bad until relit.  Than perfect -  always related to fresh tank

Turn off the burner valves/dials & close the valve on the propane tank.    Open the propane tank valve first... then open the burner valves/dials and light it.  See if that does the trick.

Thanks, that seemed to work. My burgers are saved!

As far as the tank: it is an exchange unit...from Walmart. Some kind of safety on it, you say? Or vapor lock?

+1

If I leave the burners open, and turn on the gas, it won't flow for some reason.  If I make sure the burners are OFF before I open the gas valve, everything works just fine.

the POL on your grill or the valve on the tank either one may have a safety device that restricts flow if opened too quickly called a "check"  theres no reason to have them on 20# valves or BBQ grills so far as i'm concerned but on a transport or bulk tank they exist so that you're not emersed in a mile wide vapor cloud of LPG if a hose breaks or piping fails, etc......
