Price gouging (aka back ordering) is a way for companies to keep their stock for future markets.

If a gas station raises prices to $5.00 per gallon, it means that they want to turn away customers on purpose.

They don't want to run out of the product that they sell, that brings in sales of the items that they really make money on.
