ok well not really but it included the machine gun ban.
anyone know why it was put in place and if there's a chance the machineguns will be taken off the NFA list? Is there any conclusive evidence the banning of NFA items has reduced crime? doesnt happen often but I feel like learnin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_Owners_Protection_Act |

Of course there was never any evidence that 922(o) (that's the ban provision from that law) reduced crime, there never was crime with legally owned machine guns since 1934. It was put in by an anti-gunner hoping to either kill the bill, or make it so machine guns would be all but unattainable by us of...lesser stature...
The rest of that bill helped gun owners escape some of the terrible things in the '68 GCA, so if you want to get rid of 922(o), either get rid of just that, or get rid of all of the FOPA AND the GCA. |

There is a SMALL chance of 922(o) - the part of FOPA that banned new ones - going away by SCOTUS ruling, IF we get the right folks on the court.... Which would mean you could pay your $200, and get your brand new M16 for the same price as a semi AR... IF that happened... |

I'd also be dirt poor from sending lead downrange. Although, I'd wager a FA .22LR AR would be fun as hell! |

IIRC, before '86 the M16 was selling for about $100 more than the AR at local gun shows. I was in high school at the time. If I'd known I would've asked my Dad to buy about ten of em' and store them away. |

If i remember correctly a nfa firearm was used in a crime ,a cop used one to kill his wife i think it was in the 60's |

i figure crimes are still committed with illegal machine guns anyways and this ban is really just a cost barrier to gun collectors. Criminals are still gonna be criminals and reasonable people (hopefully us) are still gonna be responsible with current NFA weapons as is proven with like 2 crimes attributed to registered NFA weapons since 1930something.
Anyone know how much illegal MGs are going for on the streets? If it's as cheap as before 1986 then the ban provision would be proven useless, right? |
