Husband started coming here and recently got me hooked- I love the diversity of conversations here.

2. What other interests are you into other than guns?

I'm a mom of three kids and I work outside the home- no time for other interests

3. What is your political party?

Card carrying Republican

4. What makes this site unique amongst so many other, in that the level
   of community interaction is stronger?

The diversity of people is amazing to me- diversity in education, careers, location, etc... and the intelligent conversations that occur but also the trivial ones as well.  I can ask anything and someone will have an answer and so far no one has given me any grief for being a woman and in a mostly guy dominated location.  Its also nice to not see the catty conversations that can occur on many sites where women are the predominant posters. Of course, I've always been the type to go hang out with the guys at family gatherings and listen to shop talk anyway.

5. What is your career?   High School Teacher

6. What is your highest level of education (High School Diploma, GED, Associates of Art) Masters of Health Administration- working on the second masters degree now and some work towards PhD.

1. What brings you to this site and why do you like to be here?
A heavy interest in firearms and the general community of somewhat like-minded adults to converse with on varying topics.

2. What other interests are you into other than guns?

Computers, girlfriend, quality (not quantity) alcohol of varying forms.

3. What is your political party?
Repub.

4. What makes this site unique amongst so many other, in that the level

5. What is your career?

I work in the beverage (mostly alcohol) marketing industry as a dept manager.

6. What is your highest level of education (High School Diploma, GED, Associates of Art)

1. I was googling something and the first link that popped up was one to this site.  I probably wouldn't have come here to post and comment, except that I was familiar with the site name due to some interaction I've had with people from this site on a web-based game.  As to the second part of the question, I'm not yet sure whether I like being here, LOL, but it's been interesting reading the few times I've come here lately to poke around.

2. I'm not really "into" guns, however my knowledge about them and the gun culture, while still pathetic by any standard, has increased exponentially over the past few months.  Other interests... I read a lot, and enjoy cooking.

3. I'm a Democrat. (I can hear the cries of "Off with her head!" already)

4. I'm not yet very familiar with the community here, but there seem to be many like-minded individuals, some with common backgrounds, so I imagine there is a lot of comradarie based on shared/similar experiences.  Everyone should have a place where they can be among people who "get" them.

5. Research Scientist

1. What brings you to this site and why do you like to be here?
I've been coming to this website since I was 14. I'm 24 now and I think I'm still here because it is a habit/addiction and because there is always something weird or just flat out interesting going on. The high consentration of nerds and geeks and former and current military people makes for an interesting place. Its also because this website is a valuble resource that has taught me things that have helped me tremendously in life. Its made me a better car driver. Its made be a better college student. Its taught me how to fix or make things. Its helped me read people and gauge various personalities and social situations better. ect ect

2. What other interests are you into other than guns?
I like researching trends in computer hardware. I'm obsessed with everything music related. I love opera, rock music and recording and mixing music. I like to lift weights. I take a strong interest in geopolitics and read quite a bit about the different politcal and military situations and realities throughout the world. I'm very interested in sociology, just because I like to see how and why groups of people interact and do things together. I love psychology and would make a good psychologist, but I won't dare go into it because the people who go into it are fucked in the head and seem to only go into it in order fix or understand themselves and others. I could go on, but it doesn't matter...

3. What is your political party?
I refuse to have one. I hate to say it, but I don't believe in our politcal system anymore. Its BS and the only thing that matters is if you are wealthy and powerful and you have your own lobbying group... or if you go into politics and only give a crap about staying in power.

4. What makes this site unique amongst so many other, in that the level
of community interaction is stronger?
The HUGEEEEEEEEEEE percentage of INTJs and nerds and geeks. I'm serious...

5. What is your career?
Professional cynic and college student.

6. What is your highest level of education (High School Diploma, GED, Associates of Art)
I'm in college knocking out my Associate of Science... I'm eventually going to get a doctorate, but I'm slowly specializing in certain areas of medicine before I attempt that.

7. Any other interesting comments.
Nerds like guns... Seriously, they are emotionally obsessive and like black toys that kill things from a distance.

The post NoStockBikes made is interesting, and at least a brief discussion of that issue should probably be included in your paper somewhere.  Polling like this, in a post on an internet forum asking for responses, results in a self-selecting sample; that is, the responses you get will not necessarily give you a true picture of the feelings of the community.  Based on what NoStockBikes posted, that may be particularly true in this subculture... which is an interesting subject on its own.

It's definitely interesting in the way word, and yes I do understand that I won't get a "true" picture of the community. In fact I've noticed a lot of people tend to stick
to specific areas in the forums, some being wider such as the general
AR-15 or AK-47 forums or specific areas such as the Retro forums.

It will definitely be interesting how this paper turns out. But alas, there should be
no worries, it will be in a positive light seeing how I'm trying to dissuade any
misinformed stereotypes any one in my class has about gun owners
(specifically gun owners on AR-15 ).

But initially, I came to this site to learn, and I think this site, unlike many other sites, actually can have some pretty valuable information.
