AROTC grunt myself, but yeah the USAF with one nuke could remove a whole lot more shit from the surface of the earth in one second than the USMC, Delta, and the spaceship door gunners could in a year.

Hard to say comparing multiple eras, resources, missions

Spartans, best ever.  Raised from the crib to fight.

After that the Rhodesian Selous Scouts

After that the US Military as it headed into Iraq in '91

After that the Allied/US Army that landed on Normandy

After that the Germans that rolled across much of Europe from '39-'40

Have you ever seen two male hamsters fight each other?  It really is a fur ball complete with blood and screaming rodents.  Ounce for ounce, I'd put my money on horny, enraged, stud hamsters.

I'd either go with bear cavalry (already taken) or the Naval Reserve.  The 56th line of defense, behind  the Mississippi National Guard and in front of the League of Women Voters.

There is alot of ifs here...............

Most power....US naval submarine branch

Most power and actually used.... US bomber command

Most mobility... US delta/ SEAL

Most likley to get in way over their heads and come out alive....US marines, Rangers, & 82nd Airborne

Most firepower ground unit... 3rd ID, Ist Armored, 7th cav

Most destructive on a local scale.....Charles Taylor militas

Most ruthless spentaz

there's alot of ifs in the question I leave off an Isreali units only because of size not professionalism or skill, I leave out SAS because they are far less likely to get missions than Spentaz, delta, or SOCOM

In History

Cortez vs Aztec

Mongols vs Arabia

Alexander the Great vs Persia

Mulim exstremest vs Nomadic arab tribes

US vs Iraq 91 & 03

Germany VS Europe

You know those threads about "what would happen if half a dozen modern marines/soldiers when back to the US revolution"?  That's kinda the same thing the conquistadors encountered.

When has any branch of the US military?  We always give it back, the AF just gives it back quicker and in much smaller pieces

Not quite Cortez had alot of help from the non aztec tribes that were tired of being hunted and sacrificed, and they did get beat up and had to retyreat from the capitial and later return.

The Spanish were very disciplined, they could not dismount from thier horse infront of natives under penalty of death for the first several months. Even after that aura of fear was broken you try to keep a matchlock rifle working in tropical jungle conditions against a horde of Natives hell bent on killing you.

Frm this thread it seems like we all have some biases. but I am going to predictably assert the USMC as my answer. Based on the fact that they are the only complete combined arms force in the most powerful military the world has ever seen.

Infantry

Special operations

Armor

Artillery

Motor Transport

Tactical airlift

Close air support

Rotary wing lift

Rotary wing attack

Air superiority

Riverine

Deep penetration recon

Direct action

Intel collection

Amphibious reconaisance

Combat engineering

We can do it all.

You're conveniently forgetting the thousands of natives who fought for his side as well, without which, he would have been annhilated..
