So every year I make my kid a Halloween Costume.. ONe year I missed(my wife took it upon herself to buy a costume  **shame**)

Anyway. examples of years past

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/1034/kill3333el7.jpg

So this year my son wants to be a CloneTrooper patterned after the ones on the cartoon series Clone Wars.

http://www.razorsedgecollectibles.com/catalog/images/Gentle%20Giant%20Star%20Wars%20Clone%20Wars%20White%20Clone%20Trooper.jpg

So here are my starting products..

So first thing is I bought this plastic blaster from Wallmart in the
Halloween section.. which is much more authentic then the official
blaster they sell as a toy for kids.

FOR $8.25  I bought this one

I spray painted it a FLAT BLACK  (finished product looks great)

Notice the ugly Blue and Orange..

Next I started cutting.. the cardboard to make the armor.

initial testing for size etc..

yeah i know it looks shitty.. dont worry

Ok so the scissors werent working well so i brought out an old butcher knife we never use..  works great..
here are the peices for the arms, breastplates etc. notice upper breast plate is upside down.
http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/6957/aaadsc01940nr5.jpg
here i have the gun added

SO i ended the day with these peices.. All arms and legs will wrap all
the way around my kid.. the belt.. wont but i will make a back peice..
and the figuring out how to put it all together and still look good on
will be the challange. I am sure i will need some interlacing pieces as
well.
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/373/aaadsc01947dz1.jpg
spraypainted all the peices.. I wasnt paying much attention but i spraypainted my neighbors yard more then my own.

Mayor Mikey (Bloomturd) would be very upset with you.  How dare you make something look so "real".

Just a thought on how to attach the armor. How about a black long sleeve t-shirt and a black leatard type thing. You could hot glue (not while junior is wearing it!) the pieces to the fabric. Should hold up for a little while.Or you could attach it with velcro.

If you notice in the first pic is an old Darth Vader Black Leatard. This is gonna be underneath and what I plan to attach the peices to.

Somewhere on the internet an irate man is railing about his neighbor spraypainting his lawn white.

Next time lay down some newspaper before you start spraying.
Looks like your kid will be very happy.

While the outfit totally kicks ass, have you ever heard of newspaper ?

Too bad ....my county does nothing but mail-in absentee balloting , but I'm sure my SEC can help me find "McCain/Palin"!
(To ensure the proper conditioned response, I had the Vet wear an Obama mask when it came time for the kitten's neutering)

[#40]
TOTAL AWESOMENESS!!

Who cares about the grass.  It'll grow out.

I would suggest velcro for attaching the pieces to the under-outfit.  You can buy a very long strip of velcro for cheap and cut it accordingly. It might make your boy stay comfortable because he'll be able to bend and flex easily.  Try white long-underwear underneath perhaps.
10/27/2008 8:02:29 PM EDT

dude you're the coolest dad in the world......

So here are all my peices after being painted

Some initial peicing and sizing of the parts.. i decided to try using velcro to attach some of them..  I found that once the cardboard was painted, it was much harder to shape and form.. much stiffer then it had been. pre-paint

10-31

So my kid wasnt very accomodating at all unfortunately, he was very tired, had fallen asleep and was very hard to work with while trying to assemble the peices on to him. The leg peices unfortunately proved too difficult to work with..  if i had had a little more time, i think i would have still liked to have used them, but circumstances as they were I had to scrap them for   posterboard.. so all leg peices turned to poster board and I scrapped the knee caps.

Everyone commented on what a great costume it was and he got lots of candy

After a jaunt through the neighboorhood it was holding pretty well together... I had to use a lot more ducttape then I wanted and more showed then I wanted.

I was a little bummed that I wasnt able to complete the project 100% but things as they were I would consider it a success.  i should have done a better job measure the leg peices. and done more interlocking of the peices prior to putting it on him..  I learned a lot fomr it though and will be prepared if I do more armour of some type.
