My wife's MP3 player bit the dust. She really wants a new one. The old MP3 player was a Memorex MMP8585. It was capable of 4MB video/audio. She only used it for downloading books on tape, a few songs, and photos. We never figured out how to put movies and TV shows on it. Now we need a new player. I was looking at the iPod Touch. Very cool. You can use it to do all the above, plus surf the internet and play some simple games. The 32 G unit costs $399. We looked at the neighbor's PSP and found it really cool. It does all of the above, is much larger with a bigger video screen. The audio probibly isn't as good, but audio books aren't too big. It has a removable memory stick. It doesn't use iTunes. It has much cooler games. The newest PSP costs $199. What say ye? |

bought a 8 gig touch off the board here for $155. It has the latest upgrade. Took the wife 2 minutes to get online at home with Gmail. Took me a bit longer to get all my work videos loaded and a movie for the plane. Way cool. For just a mp3 player - got my daughter a nice Sony - she loves it. The screen is have the size but she just does music. |

The psp is a pretty cool gadget... you can make phone calls on it too through Skype, if that matters to you. Also, it surfs the internet pretty quickly as well, provided you have a halfway decent wifi connection. Unfortunately, the games suck. I got a PSP slim for free with 8 games and none of them are any fun at all. I've used it far more as an MP3 player or movie player, or even to get on the internet, which it does a very good job at. Unfortunately, the battery life is not that long (Better than it used to be though) and the PSP slim is much more difficult to mod than the old fat PSP. |
That is my personal bias too. I don't want to be stuck using iTunes for everything. I have an old HP iPaq that I love. It does almost everything that I need and works as a pretty nice mp3 player. What other devices do you guys suggest? |

the psp works well for what it is. i haven't picked mine up in awhile though. the audio is pretty much useless without headphones or the FM modulator to play through a stereo system. it's come in handy on trips for movies and such but my blackberry will do that now and it much more portable. |

I have a PSP that I use mainly as a photo/movie album to show off my kid. My camera and camcorder ar both 16x9. I found a free movie converter that can convert almost any format, so that part is easier. I have a few games, but Mrs.ByteTheBullet has more games, she has an older model. The internet radio is pretty sweet. I played with skype a little. Browsing AFRCom, especially lite mode is great, though posting is not a picnic. eta: I also put movies on it, mainly for trips. I have some amplified speakers for that. I really like my PSP. ByteTheBullet (-: |
