I've got a friend who wants to sell me a Tech 9 for $200.  Is it worth it?  Anything I should know about?

Thanks,
MLSAR

Thats a good price if it comes with a couple of mags and some ammo.  Triggers suck worse than MAC11's though.  It is "evil" looking, so just buy it and have fun.

Not sure.  I'll see it tomorrow for the first time.  What are the pros & cons of both?

$200?  Buy it for God's sake, it looks mean.

ETA:  I have a stainless shrouded one and it isn't all that bad.  I've shot probably 800-1000 rounds through it, maybe 2 FTEs.  I did, however, crack the charging handle once.

Just buy it.
For $200 it's pretty much a no brainer, more fun than anything else in the price range.
Might not be as reliable as a 10/22 or Mossberg 500 in that price range, but it's definitely evil and black and fun.

You can also obtain parts kits including everything BUT the receiver on gunbroker.
I've seen a number of em lately. I'd buy one for spares while you can.

They're usually craptastic, but if you get one that runs, they're fun. Not too accurate, just fun.

Ive got one. I too paid 200 for it. Good investment. I did just about every reliability mod that google would turn up, that i could do myself. Its runs decent.

IIRC, one lands you in "pound me in the ass prison" and the other is perfectly legal.

[Open bolt, semi-automatic firearms are illegal. ATF says they are too easy to convert to fully automatic. I think we should ban cars. They're too easy to run people over with].

For $200 I would buy it just for shits and giggles. I would jump on a Tec 22 as well if one came along at the right price.

This is incorrect. It is perfectly legal to own a open bolt Tec 9 so long as it left the factory that way. In 1982 the ATF forced Intratec to switch to a closed bolt design under the guise that open bolt designs made full auto conversions easier. They did not how ever prohibit the possession of existing open bolt guns.

OP: It's "TEC-9."  Not "TECH-9."

"Intratec."

Not really a spelling Nazi.  Just trying to help.

Firing pins break alot, and if you can find em they cost 30+ bucks each.  I gave up after the 2nd one, sold that piece of shit for parts.

They run great with FMJ ammo. You don't have problems until you try using JHP or flat nosed ammo. They were design for military standard FMJ.
