Does anyone make a cell phone that will work for mutiple carriers and be able to receive calls from them. I need to have more than one carrier and hate to carry 2 different phones.

I don't know if that's even possible, many phones have dual number capability but I don't think you can have two service providers simultaneously. I could be totally wrong though.

Sprint has a phone that works with Nextel towers and sprint towers but they are the same company. They still use different towers though.  Sprint service SUCKS though so be warned.

Get a dual sim unlocked phone. They sell them on ebay. Both of the carriers will have to use sim cards though. I don't think Verizon uses sim cards.
